Hopefully it was just too early for the scan, and all will be as it should at the next scan. I found at our 8 week scan that the placenta had (and was still) growing really well, and my weekly hcg results were going up as they should, but that the embryo had died between 5-6 weeks. We had another scan a couple of days later to confirm a missed miscarriage, and then a d & c the week after as i didn't want to wait and see when my body would decide to miscarry on it's own. At 7-8 wks it should measure approx 12-15mm Soda

I had a scan at 5wks 1day and same thing. Then one at 7wks 1day and all was normal. it can just be too early, even at 7-8 weeks baby is only about 2mm long! so at 5-6 weeks (you could possibly be earlier than you think..and just being out by a few days can make a big difference in bubs development..) sometimes they just cant see baby yet. it could also mean that baby just hasn't formed, and there IS just a sac, meaning a chemical pregnancy (body thinks its pregnant but it isnt, essentially)...
