Hi snuggle bug. Sorry I can't answer you're question about clomid, but I might be able to give you a little more insight into PCOS. I'm 22 and was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 17. My partner and I have been TTC for our first child for over 6 months now. Before I was diagnosed I had a lot of cramping even well before AF was due. My cycles were all over the show but when I originally had an ultrasound done they found no cysts, they put me on so many different contraceptive pills to try and gain control of my cycles and then when I had another ultrasound around 4 months later I had around 26 cysts on my left ovary and 30 on my right.

Apparently there is a differe between poly cystic ovaries and poly cystic ovarian syndrome, I visited Fertility Associates in Auckland and my specialist said if you just have cysts then it's poly cystic ovaries. But if you have cysts, irregular cycles, and increased testosterone levels then it's full blown PCOS, which is what I had. After about 3 years on and off different pills I decided to stop taking them and let my body do it's own thing, eat healthy, exercise lots etc. It took well over a year but my cycles finally started to become regular-ish and when I had an ultrasound I had no cysts whatsoever! TTC is taking a bit longer ( although nowhere near as long as half you lovely ladies on here) so I think there may be still be a few issues but fingers crossed they sort themselves out. But all in all I found taking a natural approach to PCOS helped me a lot. Yes, there was no funding for us for clomid, so we had to pay for it, and if you have to pay for it there's no 'wait list' as such. Hi Snugglebug - not sure if you've had your questions answered elsewhere by now or not.

If you pay to go to a specialist you can start clomid right away if they feel it is a good option for you. Normally you'll want to get tests done to see if you have the PCO part of PCOS, and also if you are ovulating on your own or not. Also is good to get hubby checked out to see if he's contributing!

Hi there,
When I was TTC the first time I had long cycles, round 40-45 days, and it took about 9-10 months to concieve (less cycles if that makes sense). I always thought it was down to stress that it took a bit longer for my age (I was 23) as when I gave up, it happened.

Anyhow I now have a lovely 3 year old boy and finally ready to try again. However since coming off BCP last November (because I randomly started bleeding and didn't stop until I stopped the pill), I have only had 2 periods and I wouldn't even have called them proper periods really. They only lasted a couple of days lightly.

I have since been taking Femaprin (vitex and b6) as that helped me regulate my cycle last time. Think I just ovulated so I'll see if that helps. We are not TTC yet as Im just starting a new job but will later in the year.

Im just thinking though- lately my skin is so bad (acne) and my hair has been randomly falling out. Have gained weight over the last year even though I'm eating well. I have been tested for all sorts of things as I had a period of really bad health last year and I might have a thyroid problem or maybe something with my liver. But it was always wondered when TTC #1 if I had PCOS- as I had slightly high testosterone and irregular cycles, but I had a scan at that time (about 5 years ago) and didn't have any cysts.

Im going to try and see the doctor to have some investigations about PCOS, as well as the other things. But my question is:

If I find out I have PCOS, and I know it took long to concieve last time, and I pay to go privately to a specialist- will I still have to TTC for a year before Im allowed to try clomid? Im 28 now.

What else can I do to help my chances if I do have that?
