I just honestly don't think I'll be able to handle the pain without an epidural and I want to be in the place where I can get one when and if I need it lol

I just wish I wasn't so scared, I hope it'll get easier as it gets closer.

I have not been to the maternity ward in Paraparaumu yet, am meeting a midwife there next month so I'll check it out then and we can swap notes! I guess in theory, if there is no major problem the less clinical environment is probably less stressful in a way. But that said, I had a terrible miscarriage last year and lost a lot of blood quite quickly and I was amazed at how quickly things go from 'ok' to 'really not ok' so yeah, in that respect, all the support of the hospital on hand is a massive reassurance. Lots to think about!

So glad to hear there are other people in Paraparaumu! I haven't joined any groups as it keeps asking me for a password to join the group!? For some reason I just feel more safe in a big hospital, I've been to the Paraparaumu maternity ward and it's just not for me. Hopefully everything will work out cause I'm pretty terrified at the moment!.

hey danielle, I am only just 5w preg, so very early days, but we are moving up to Paraparaumu next month so I'll be in the same boat as you, first time mum. I have the same concerns about the distance to the hospital. I figure I'm just going to wait and see how the preg progresses and if it's textbook then the Kapiti clinic might be the way to go.

Be good to keep in touch, have you joined the 'due in sept' private forum?

Hi ya, i used to live in Paraparaumu. There is a maternity ward in Paraparaumu which many of my friends have given birth at. Its half an hour by ambulance to Wellington should something go wrong. Or you can arrange to have baby in Wellington, which is also common. Something you will discuss with the midwife you choose. I would have loved to have met another first time mother. I am in the same boat but am up here in the Naki now and don't know anyone. My friends and family live back there and i quite often go back. Do you have a facebook account i can add you on?

Hi everyone. I'm a first time mom who just moved to Paraparaumu and wondering if there's any others out there? I'm 6 weeks 6 days and had my first scan on Monday (as I am having brown spotting) and my husband and I saw our baby's heart beat <3 it was a beautiful moment. The one thing I'm really concerned about is there not being a hospital in Paraparaumu and if anyone has ever gone to Wellington City hospital to give birth and if it was difficult to get there?
