Just tell them what you want. you can definitely get a tubal ligation too.

A friend of mine had a traumatic 3 days birth with her first, and tore quite badly. Her MW said if she decided she wanted a C-section for her second, then that is what she would recommend to the obstetrician. She had an appointment later in her pregnancy to discuss the options, OB said it was up to her what she wanted... We're in Chch though, so might have different thinking MW/OB down here.

I've found the majority are quite sympathetic towards traumatic births, and you can usually get what you want through the public system. Might be worth investigating before going straight to private?

Do you have a midwife you could ask for a referral to an obstetrician in your area,? you could even ask your GP for a referral. That way you should be able to get the kind of care and birth you desire locally and for free.

If you do want to go private however, I know that some people do travel for their care and birth to be able to do so. But means you have to travel for some antenatal appointments and the birth, and obviously you have to pay for all the care.
I am with origins obstetrics in Auckland and they are great and would be understanding. There are plenty of others too if you google it. Auckland obstetric centre I have heard is good too.

Don't be afraid to ask for what you want through the public system.

Hope you work it out.
I am with a private ob in auckland and am having a c section for personal reasons and had no trouble when I asked for one. many book up early so get in quick. I know there is not an abundance of private obstetric care outside of main centres (auck, wellington, chch) however. But I honestly think given your circumstances you should be able to get one for free on the public system. I'm a nurse and I have seen many ladies having elective c sections due to previous traumatic birth.

Good luck!

Edited by Babycakes1 - 07 August 2013 at 8:00pm

I know lots of people are anti c-sections but I'm pregnant with my 5 th bub and I thinking that I want a c-section. All my others have been NVD although my last two have been really traumatic. My last had shoulder dystocia, was an emergency and he was born with an apgar of 0, meconium aspiration as well as nerve damage to his arm. Which has now resolved. I myself sustained injury to my pelvis.

I'm unsure if I will be offered an elective c-section but DH and I are certain it is what we want this time plus a tubal ligation. Does anyone know where you can go privately in Auckland for one?
