Birthcare is WONDERFUL. Do a tour before hand. Book a private room - expensive but worth it! Then hubby can stay. The transfer is not that bad. Apparently birthcare is really nice, its like a hotel. you can do tours there to have a look around. the shared rooms (2 people) are free and subsidised by the government but if you want a private room you request it and i think its like $330 a night. Yes, I was told this as well and was a little worried about this too. I'm told by my midwife that I need to transfer to Birthcare after I give birth at Auckland hospital, unless there are complications.

I'm feeling a little nervous about this. When I gave birth the first time I was feeling completely out of it and wheeled to the ward. I can't imagine being up for a drive with a newborn. Did others find it inconvenient to transfer straight after birth or was it not a big deal?
