Author: Sarah102361
Subject: 42897
Posted: 28 December 2012 at 10:37am

We have a surprise baby #4 (3rd living) and it's very early on but I'd like to find a midwife. Loved my last one but we've moved now. I have very quick labours and would never make it to a hospital - last time my midwives didn't even make it!

Can anyone give me a recommendation? I'd like someone well-read and/or experienced but open-minded - anyone set in her ways or bossy will upset my pregnant self pretty quickly. Last time an on-call thought she knew better than me how my labour would go which is why my midwife missed the birth. It all went well and I don't REALLY care that she missed it, but it annoys me that I wasn't listened to when I was clearly in transition over the phone (think she finally sent her when I was beginning to push).

I'm in the South Wairarapa so Greytown is probably best, but I'll travel further for someone really good if I have to :) Any recommendations - or ones that someone like me should avoid? I realise there's more than one 'good' type of midwife as women want different things - and just as some women will want the security of being told how things will go and not having to make too many decisions, I really want to be able to have in-depth discussions and be left to my own devices a lot of the time.
