Just an update that we now have me insured through Columbus Direct, who cover up to 30 weeks. You do need to pay for their 'Pregnancy Exclusion' to the policy though.

We initially purchased through 1-Cover - only to find (when reading the fine print) that they didn't cover me for childbirth, antenatal and essentially anything relating to a worst case scenario for pregnancy - despite verbally stating this would be covered on the phone. Annoying, but thankfully got a refund.

Southern Cross, QBE and any of the main insurance providers didn't cover childbirth etc for the period in which we're travelling (24 to 25.5 weeks and travelling to the US).

I would definitely recommend starting the process of looking for insurance as early as possible, and reading the full terms and conditions of the policy. We also found there are also exclusions by some providers if you have a pregnancy with multiples or have used fertility treatments to get pregnant, which would add extra complexities if that's your situation.

To be on the safe side, we've got a letter from our OB confirming that I'm safe to travel - and we'll be taking a copy of all our OB records (scans etc) along with us.

A lot of insurance companies will cover you up to 30 weeks but it must be listed as a condition and you would pay a premium, I'd ring around a few and actually just out right ask.

DH and I are travelling to the US when I'll be 22 weeks pregnant, returning around 24 weeks.

I'm definitely getting a letter from my OB that it's safe for me to fly + also checking the airline policies. But, travel insurance seems a bit of a harder task.

I'd love any recommendations about which insurance companies provide travel insurance after 20 weeks, and good coverage.

From what I've seen so far, most (like Southern Cross) only cover up to 20 weeks. It's our first baby, so I don't have any history of complications which would add difficulties.
