We couldn't wait till they stopped pulsing because we needed to take cord bloods for some tests, but I figured why not leave it as long as we could before then.<span style="font-size:10px"><br /><br />Edited by Hopes</span>]]>

I *think* it can't be done if you are bleeding too much and they want to administer synto. I didn't do it with DD1 cos I had managed 3rd stage after a really long labour. Second time round we did it, its only a few minutes really. Regardless of everything else it was nice to have several minutes just to focus entirely on baby before MW and DH got in close to cut the cord. <br /><br />Honestly, i wasn't hugely convinced of the benefits but figured it wouldn't hurt. in hindsight i'm glad i did <img border="0" src="https://www.ohbaby.co.nz/forum/smileys/smiley1.gif" border="0"> ]]>

Have read into leaving the cord until it has stopped pulsating to reduce blood loss for mother and baby. Dont know much about it, but do know a few people who have had lotus births- where the placenta and cord and left attached til baby til the cord shrivels up and falls off.]]>
