We have a safety rail on DS's bed which we just got and put up on Wednesday, it's a slat bed and it works great.

He is a real mover in bed, his bedroom wall backs onto ours and he really hits the sides of his cot with force so I wasn't going to chance it. His sister needs the cot and I had a fear of him falling out and then hating his new bed and refusing to sleep in it. We use one of these as well. I find it great. we use a 'big bed bumper' (much like a pool noodle, but a flat bottom) from the online shop Mum Knows Best.

we just used a rolled up towel and stuck it under the sheet. They do learn very quickly not to fall out of the bed. DD was 21 mths when she moved to a bed (had the cot rail off since 18mths) and she fell off once (before I put the rolled towel under) and after that was fine.

Get a pool noodle. Cheaper and you just stick it under the sheet. I am looking at getting a safety first bed rail for dd-21 months. I had c section just over a week ago with dd2 and can't lift dd1 into cot over the rails now dh is going back to work next week. We can take of the side of the cot so my question is can it be used with slats?
