I took breast pads but didn't need them cos I went home before my milk came in.
Took far too many clothes for DS
Our hospital provides pads and nappies so I didn't take any.

I took slippers! Best thing I had. But like C&J I forgot actual shoes to go home in cos I went to hospital in my slippers.

I wore hospital gowns for the first night and hospital disposable undies lol then used my big granny undies. Our hospital DIDNT provide pads - after reading all these posts here i assumed all hospitals did. Luckily i had packed one packet which did me until someone could bring more in.

I had:
comfy pj/trackie pants
breastfeeding singlets (hospital was so hot i didnt need tops)
pad + breastpads
lanisoh
a book
outfit for baby
outfit for me
undies, nice big nanna knickers as i'd heard you want the ones that go up high if you have a c-section or else they sit on the scar.


I should have packed more pants (leaking waters destroyed most of them before i decided to just leave them off), should have packed snacks. Agree with all the above, and would add that it's nice to take a roll of your own toilet paper - nice soft stuff. The toilet paper in the hospital can be a bit scratchy which is the LAST thing you want!!! I gave the rest of my roll to another lady in my ward when I was discharged and she was incredibly grateful!

I would also emphasise the snacks. Not only is hospital food pretty average, it only comes at certain times of day. I was always getting hungry at night with all the BFing and kept munching on Moro bars cos that's all I had!

The outfits I had for baby were too big, I'll make sure I have at least one premie size next time.

Forgot shoes to wear home, went to hospital in slippers - had a pair of jandals for using in the shower.

Waitakere provide maternity pads and newborn nappies.

Uhm first time
change of clothes for me (didnt use them),
change for baby (turns out he wasn't NB size lol had to get a larger outfit),
extra knickers (hmmm never had the throw them away prob?!),
ipod (never used it),
phone and charger,
rescue remedy (never used it),
arnica (never used it),
maternity pads (hospital ones were better so one of the helpers raided the hospo cupboard for me and sent me home with a pile),
fan (Lol WTF? And no didn't use it),
wheat bag (hahaha uh nooooo),
newborn nappies,
activity book and pen (great for after baby arrived), toiletries (didn't use them, just used hospital stuff),
and a packet of wetwipe toilet tissue (best thing I put in the bag!!)
and packed it all by 32 weeks.

Second time round
again an outfit for baby that was a size too small,
phone and charger,
a change of clothes for me,
leftover pack of maternity pads from DS1 (again didn't use them lol hospital ones are the bomb)
and packed it all about 10 minutes before we left.

LOTS of undies! Like, 10 pairs :P And as Poppi said - ones you dont care about throwing away!
I had shelf bra singlets cuz bra's were annoying, a book, cellphone charger and phone, camera, NB nappies and wipes, Hat and a few vests for baby (I mostly used the ones the hospital provided). Having just come back from the hospital after our first bubs, I would say that I took way too much stuff as well!

Deffo need plenty of knickers (that you don't mind throwing away!), one or two nighties/sets of PJs (depending on how long you stay), snacks, pen & paper, a book, jandals/light slippers, cellphone, camera, newborn nappies & baby clothes (cotton layer, wool layer and other). First time round? WAY too much.

Second time round Ill be taking a whole lot less and if I need extra stuff, someone can bring it to me.

What I was glad to have was some snacks (esp lactation cookies), trackpants, breastfeeding singlets, a jersey, plenty of knickers, a book/magazine, phone charger, wallet, nice toiletries (incl shampoo and conditioner), camera (& spare batteries) and then clothing for baby.
