Hi LuckyMym2B! My little one is 5 weeks and he is in our room, my daughter moved to her own room when she was 6 weeks old and my first born was in my room till he was about 7 months. Just do what you are comfortable with! MammieB - we love the co-sleep cuddles too, special bonding time for Mums.

Leap - do the angel care monitors also provide an ear in the nursery? So you can use it for both movement & sound monitoring?

Glad to hear others have moved babes to their own rooms early too, all of my friends have been at least 12 wks, some io to 5 months before moving to their own rooms.

luckymama2be our little girl has been in her own room next door to ours since we got home from the hospital and she's nearly 6 weeks old now. Congratulations luckymama2be, I had DS in his room from when we got him home. Had a monitor so always heard him. **lurker** LuckyMum2B - my baby slept in her own room from day 1 at home (2 days old) She is a VERY restless sleeper, and I would NEVER sleep if she slept in my room. Her room was right across from ours, so we didnt even bother with a monitor. I felt comfortable enough to have her in her own room as I knew I would wake at the smallest sound if need be - but it is completely up to you as to how you feel, no right or wrong choice her.

(co-sleeping is nice for cuddles sometimes, and we still do it every now and then - more as a treat for me than for her)

I just scraped into the May Babies group thanks to the intervention of a great obstetrician.

She was 10 days late and arrived by C-Sect after a failed induction & 36hrs of laboring!

We've named her Elle.

Question....hoping someone can give me some advice here (first time Mum). Is two weeks too young to move to her own room?
She squeaks & snorts & farts & makes so much noise while sleeping, plus with the waking for feeding & resettling, Daddy has moved out to the spare room a few times. Surely if we put a monitor in her room ( possibly one of those video feed ones) that would be ok?

Any thoughts for or against would be warmly appreciated!
If it was totally up to me, I'd move her into my bed so I could cuddle her all night & let Daddy move to the spare room!!! Oooo it's getting exciting... only have three weeks to go and it's counting down quickly! Alexisj15 I will look for you on facebook tonight so I can join the group on there also if that's ok. Seems a bit quiet in here so might see what's going on there I have had heaps of changes in the last couple of months. DH has got a job in the mines in Australia so he does week on and week off and flys home on his weeks off. Dumb he's not here for a week at a time but good that I get him then for a whole week not just the weekends. Also, means that I don't have to go back to work if I don't want to after bubs is born. I should really start thinking about frozen meals as well especially as the weeks DH is away I'll have to organise my own meals. I'm thinking I'll do a big cottage pie as that freezes really well. Maybe might do some kind of pasta like chicken and bacon. I had my baby shower in the weekend which was lovely and had a lot of left over sweet stuff so I have frozen banana cake, carrot cake and cup cakes already in the freezer! We are having a little girl....due in 4 weeks....my first child and DP's first daughter but second child.

Hey all, im due between the 04th and 14th of may.
Just finished work and working on all the frozen meals we will be needing over the next few months.
Any good freezing recipe suggesgtions?
My husband and I fell pregnant straight away also, it shocked us but we feel very lucky. Dont get me wrong we were trying but didnt expect it to happen the first time :) We found out we were pregnant in Rome!
Does everyone know what sex they are having?
Hope everyones pregnancies are going well and we are all feeling positive.

Hi everyone,

I haven't posted on here for a long time! Six weeks left to go and I am so excited! We have finished antenatal and have now started hypnobirthing. Its AMAZING! I am sooo confident about giving birth and really looking forward to the experience.

I have had terrible back pain the past 2months and have been going to acupuncture which has helped a lot and I am also looking at going to an osteopath too.

I hope that everyone is being pampered and looked after, having baths run for them, back rubs and lovely warm cuddles at night (although getting comfy is rather hard)

just checking to see what was happening on the thread, turns out not much i read the phrase 'baby-rabies' today and it made me giggle. such an apt description! urbandictionary has it as "the name given to the lapse of sanity in which a person feels that s/he absolutely MUST have a baby in the very near future" hehe i had the baby-rabies baaad!

bought myself a couple of new work tops today, will help stave off any morning meltdowns for the coming weeks of work! so over not having lots of choices, but too much of a tightarse to spend much on maternity wear...

spoke to my gran this morning, was the first time she has sounded really excited about her first great-grandbaby so that really gave me a bit of a lift

Hello everyone,

Been a little while since i have been on. Been so busy! Thanks to everyone for suggestions and advice on breastpumps. I have been doing a bit of research and will probably get a second hand one that electric.

Had my 32 week scan on Tuesday, our little boy is position head down, he is kicking me so hard in ribs and belly button and i am now finding it hard to sleep at night...especially with this hot weather in Auckland.

We have found a home, so big move and packing..I will be about 34 weeks by that time, going to be so big! have not even had a chance to think about the baby shower, people keep asking me but so many things to do!! i have my oldest sons birthday the day before we move and our 6yr olds 4 days after the move..

Question..why does it always feel like there is so much on just before babies birth lol.

Pepe-Bebe, i am so sorry to hear about your miscarriage, i could not imagine what you and your partner are going through. I wish you both the best and hope everything will turn out as it should be for you both. Hugs and Kisses.

Hi everyone,

I feel kind of stink coming on your forum just to write this, but since I let you all know I was pregnant again back in January, I felt I should let you know that I miscarried again yesterday.

It's so strange as I had a small bleed on Friday, which was 11d/5w, the exact same day I started last time. We went to hospital, had an exam and cervix was closed and all fine, but had an ultrasound anyway which showed our baby had died at 8 weeks (same approx age as last time). I started miscarrying on Monday and passed the baby yesterday morning at 12w,1d. Just so inexplicable and sad.

I at least had the weekend to get my head around it before I actually miscarried, which was better than the shock of just suddenly passing the baby while still thinking I was not having a MC, like last time.

We'll try again, but our donor is back in the Caribbean, so we need to save up and hopefully he'll be granted another visitor visa.

It's pretty sad calling in here (although I've been lurking from time to time to see where you are all at). I would have been 31 weeks and 5 days today I think, 1 day behind Nannikin, and that was hard enough to bear when I was pregnant again, so now it's just argh!

I'm happy for you all that there have been no more angel babies, and with you all the best with your labours! And I know the time is getting closer, but if any of you are interested - hypnobirthing looks great!!! I'd just read the book and started learning the exercises, and used them for pain relief during this MC (as I had a lot more pain than last time), they really helped me to relax and I didn't take any pain relief at all. There's a book, a CD and classes, and I've heard of people doing them last minute and still getting a lot of use from them. Check out: http://aucklandhypnobirthing.co.nz/

Im struggling to put socks on in the morning for work...otherwise its just jandals so i dont have to bend haha. Bending is very uncomfortable as is getting out of bed or off the couch. Haha sounds like me when I put my shoes on too Good on you going for walks, I had the right intentions! As soon as I found out I was pregnant I gave up all sports and walking and have pretty much done nothing since haha how lazy is that?! I get the stitch just walking to get my kids from school/kindy and when I get home I have to rest otherwise I am in mega pain.

You would think this being my third I would know how baby is laying but I have absolutely no idea! I do tend to get most movements on my right side though so hopefully head is down. Midwife on Friday so hopefully she can give me a rough idea! Lol Mandie_Pandie..I have got a major waddle going on and yeah, finding it hard to get out of the chair and almost impossible to get up off the floor. Am so big I can't even put my shoes and socks on without having to twist into a weird position! Even walking is painful now but trying to go for one, even if just round the block, everyday. Must look ridiculous though.
Bessie Bear, I am totally jealous about your baby's position, this naughty one insists on lying crosswise, really hoping it sorts itself out soon!

Hi all! Finally got the computer back woo hoo, with all pictures rescued yay.

I went overboard with my labour/hossy bags, this time I will just take the basics. Make sure you don't forget hair ties and lip balm! I took all my makeup with me but ended up going home 4hours after having my second so didn't use it. Snakcs are a must too!

Don't know if anyone has mentioned but when you go for your first wee after birth (if you have a natural birth) take a water bottle with you and squirt it down there, it will sting like a biatch otherwise! I did this for the first week, wish someone told me about it with my first.

Hope everyone is keeping well, I am slowing down a lot now and finding it hard to get up/down off chairs and really struggling to get in/out of the car without causing pain. Far out I haven't posed on here in ages. MOstly just in FB now, its hard to work out who is who lol.

We have all the furniture, execpt drawers in babies room. And its mostly decorated, just have to put up the mobile I made. Then have to sort out all the clothes and things and make sure I have everything. I know I want a merino wrap but I'm having trouble findign the rigth colour. I have a Nature baby hat already from one of the other 2 but I want it to match the wrap. LOL

It's my birthday coming up soon so yesterday I ordered some Cake lingerie from belly beyond and will get DH to get me some other stuff and he can wrap it all up for me for my birthday LOL. I won't open the courier bag when it arrives if I can help myself so it'll be a sort of surprise.

Gosh its hot, and its only 9am.

Re Breast pumps. I bought one, a avent manual, when DS was 3 days old cause we were having feeding issues, and a manual pump was so hard. I only used it a few time with DD when I was feeling a bit full as she was feeding fine. I would put some money away maybe and if you need to then buy one to suit your needs.  My sister has a medela swing and it looks really good.

MW was here yesterday the baby is head down posterior and is kicking my belly button, which really hurts. We disussed the birth, as in where.  I not sure what I'm going to do. I keep thinking maybe a home birth cause that way I don't have to find somewhere for the kids to go, spesh if its the middle of the night, and DS has kindy and I know he hates missing out on it. But I really want those lone star meals, and I will be incredibly selfish just to get them. LOL

Ohh and we have a people mover now. Had it for maybe 3 weeks. A mazda MPV. Its been brilliant so far, don't have to crouch over to try buckle int he kids, which was beginning to really hurt cause there's a baby in my ribs.

Oh yeah, Maternity leave!! Must get the accountant to sort that out sometime (self-employed calf-rearer so not a nice easy wage as such!!).

Same here, never used anything from anybag during labour, nor any desire too! hospital bag, I will definately pack normal clothes (strangely non of the 'lists' seem to list them on there?), I wouldnt be able to cope with wearing pj's that long, especially with visitors etc. It was so nice each time after giving birth to have a shower and get dressed (even nicer coz they could be pre-pregnancy clothes that I hadnt been able to wear for ages!).

Other than that... all our nappies were provided both in the birth centre and hospital (although the birth centre was only a limite amount but that could have changed by now).

I took nappies and baby clothes with me but they did have some at the hospital. It was really warm so I just wore singlet and pj. Didn't even touch my labour bag! So not sure if I will bother this time. DH will prob just take food for him as they only gave me food.

Sucks not sleeping at night aye, but only a 8 - 12 weeks left for everyone.

I'm not working and still need arvo sleeps at least twice a week, sleeping at night for more than four hours withour waking up just doesnt happen!

There are lots of different ideas around what to put in your bags but it depends on where you give birth and what you want with you, some lists you google almost tell you to take the kitchen sink!!! I was supplied with nappies, wipes and surfboard sized pads (which sound horrible but were fantastic so one or two may have ended up in my bag)

Labour bag my must have was a water bottle, and massage oil
Hospital bag for you, comfy clothes, (breastfeeding bras, singlets, undies you are happy to throw out (trust me!!) socks and a jumper (I got cold)) and toiletries are the most important. I did get Mum and DP to bring in food but   didnt need that packed in my bag
Babies bag - I used hospital clothes for first day then just needed a few changes depending on how long you stay. gosh it's been quiet in here lately! hope everyone is keeping well

we are in the midst of packing for our move, will be glad when it's over and we are settled into the new house! surprising just how much stuff we actually have for just two people! mum keeps trying to give me baby stuff from when i was little - i am looking forward to using it but would rather she would wait two weeks and bring it to the new place rather than having to move it around twice. too cute though, she is just so excited.

only 6 weeks left of work, and 5 weeks til the baby shower. eeee it's all coming round so fast! hoping to get the invites out this weekend.

definitely starting to hit the wall more easily now, just this last week i have noticed how tired i am. doesn't help that my sleeping skills have seemed to somewhat disappear

I stopped working full time on Friday and am now just doing mornings. So up at 430 and home between 830 - 1030am. Then I have the rest of the day to myself until 2.30pm when I have to get DP's son from school.

I have never felt more exhausted than I have the last few days...not even in my first trimester. Heya Everyone,
It is nice to get on here and see some good discussions going on. I have never heard of lactation cookies might have to give them a go.
melly I had an event manual pump which was ok but I borrowed a medela swing from a friend with my first and it was awesome. I ended up buying one with my second and will use that again this time. So much quicker but they are quite expensive.
I am 31 weeks today, so hard to believe I think that slowest part of this pregnancy was the two week wait waiting to find out if I was pregnant or not and since then it has flown by. Have been feeling pretty good apart from really tired and I am starting to get a varicose vein in my left foot/inside ankle (weird place I thought). Hopefully I don't start getting a whole lot of them!

Re the breast pumps: a friend of my mothers gave me an older Medela one with my daughter which I used for a while occasionally..it seemed quite good, but I hated using one! Felt like a cow being milked lol.....

Well, when it rains it really pours at our house: My daughter started vomiting on friday with a tummy bug courtesy of daycare, and it continues from both ends, sunday she came down with tonsilitis, then was just about to ring the doc to make an appointment for her today when she tripped up the back steps, faceplanting on the aluminium frame and cut her forehead open in 2 places! Spent the next hour while the doc and nurse decided whether to stitch or not, but they decided to glue them together to try and minimise the scarring which is going to be quite bad anyway. Arrrrrrrrggghhh! Had to laugh at the parking stories! I drive a big old landcruiser and have to push the seat right back so I can rotate to get out of the car, must look a bit stupid.

Spent the weekend putting jib up on the roof and walls of the nursery, it looks so much nicer already, going home to plaster the walls tonight, luckily I get out of sanding duties!

We also start antenatal classes tonight so that should be interesting (at least I'm hoping it is, otherwise the two hours is going to put me to sleep!)

Sorry I can't help out with breast pump information, know absolutely nothing about them. I bought an Advent one 2nd hand. Its electric and only cost $70 including bottles (not teats) so thought I would start out with that to see if it works, if not its not a huge loss.

yup my MW gave me a script for Titrilac- i've been finding it really helpful! i think there are a few different tabs they can prescribe for heartburn, i would definitely ask yours if she can give you something!

Did someone mention they were on meds for heartburn/reflux or did I read that somewhere else? (baby brain) Quick eze just isnt cutting it anymore. bought a few things in the groceries today, breast pads, maternity pads & some scented nappy bags. and then realised i may as well wait til we have moved as if i keep buying more stuff there will just be more guff for me to pack

had a nap this afternoon, feeling much better! doesn't take much to tire me out these days.

almost couldn't get out of the car at the gym this morning, all the parks bar one are really narrow and the big one wasn't free... always paranoid i will come out to find my car has a ding or a scratch in it

Thanks everyone, i am going to look at hiring a capsule this weekend.

Kiwi_gal, i had my glucose test last friday, meeting my MW today, should fine out the results as well.

I have a final scan in two weeks to check my placenta as it was last seen as low lying, fingers cross it has moved..really don't want a cs.

I am starting to have the same breathing problems, mine seems to be happening more in the evenings, baby is moving and kicking, he is doing intense aerobics! every day..its bearable except for when he hits my bladder or kidneys.

Nannikin, i felt pretty emotional last week, little things made me so upset lol, resting is important, i always suffer the following day if i don't relax and rest, especially when the weather is hot, i'm not the best person to be around hehe. However i don't know how you manage with work!

I have another fill weekend, friend of mine is due in 3 weeks with baby girl number two, so a little get together this evening an hopefully shopping tomorrow. me too CL! hoping bubs comes in May rather than April, that way I have at least 10 days after finishing work to wallow around by myself

melly we have a capsule car seat on loan from family but think we would probably hire if we didn't have that option. we only plan on having two kids & chances are we will have long babies so won't be using the capsule for too long!

kiwigal i hadn't even thought about hospital bags! guess now that i'm in the final 10 weeks i could get that sorted i'll give it a couple of weeks tho i had my blood & glucose tests last wed, saw my MW yesterday and only one of the blood results had come back! so hopefully they send the rest through. would love to know what my iron levels are doing. i'm not short of breath, but am short of eating room lol and am finding it increasingly uncomfortable when sitting down, baby is sitting really high and jamming itself into my ribs a lot of the time

sounds good beadle - good luck with the blinds! i have no set ideas for baby's room, we are moving in about 4 weeks so will wait and see what takes my fancy after that!

ouchies sarah - that doesn't sound like fun! the few rib kicks i've had so far haven't been particularly comforable but they haven't hurt either so i guess that's something!

AFM - i am realising that i should probably slow down a little. today i was so out of it - i had an epicly busy day at work yesterday (super busy + shortstaffed) and then went to the gym, and then over to a friend's place to catch up for a bit. waaay to much exertion apparently! i think next time i have one of those days i will cancel any evening plans... i slept pretty well last night but still felt like death warmed over today. ah well, you live and you learn!

knew i was tired when i almost burst into tears this afternoon when my friend cancelled our plans for tonight. doesn't help that she quite frequently does this to me, sometimes i feel so unimportant to her and she is meant to be one of my best friends!

Hiring a carseat is one thing thats actually gone down in price! Was going to cost $80 for six months when we had DS so we bought one for $165 as figured we would have more than one child and can hopefully sell it when we are done.

Kiwigal I am ALWAYS short of breath. We are hiring our capsule and base through baby factory. Its $50 for 6 months. So far we're still in the destruction stage Nannikin so don't have any definite plans but thinking we'll just re-jib, plaster, paint and make the room look pretty. It was pretty shabby before so we wanted to spruce it up before we put the baby in there! I might even have a go at making blinds.... maybe.

I've been given heaps of clothes by friends and family, mostly hand-me-downs but it doesn't look like I'll need to buy much more, except for some basics. We also got given a bassinet, haven't even looked at cots yet. I'm also borrowing a capsule with snap and go wheels! from a friend. So I guess I'm kind of getting organised.

Melly most of my friends have hired capsules as they're only in them for such a short time and I think they can be quite pricey to buy. I think you can hire them through plunket?

Hi everyone,

I'm a little organised, mainly because I had a little freak out last month so bought the cot, change table, some clothes etc, must have been enough to satisfy my urges cause I haven't done anything since!

Nannikin, I like your idea of buying one thing each shop. Should probably start thinking about all the stuff or the hospital bag.
When do you ladies think you will start packing your hospital bags?

Has everyone had their blood & glucose tests? I had mine this week, that glucose drink was disgusting!! Thankfully they warned me to drink it slowly - I managed to keep it down for an hour so they could do the test - got home and threw it straight up though! Yuck!
Tests all came back fine which is a relief, but I've been getting really short of breath lately, and for no apparent reason - is anyone else experiencing this?

Hello ladies :)

Weekend was superb, weather was amazing.

Its so great to hear how organized everyone is with baby gear, i am so useless lol, still to put the cot together and buy all the big stuff..eg car seat, mattress etc, so Mandy..your not alone there lol. However i do have most of the babies clothes sorted. Nannie is knitting at a speedy rate too lol.

We are planning to do it either this weekend or next.. Also thinking about hiring a car seat instead of buying, wondering if that is a better option?

Trying to post on my phone, hope it works. Stupid me managed to wipe a years worth of pics off my computer so it is with a specialist to see if he can recover them, fingers crossed!

Sounds like I am organised but really I'm not! Slowly getting there with nappies etc but have hardly any clothes! Only some hand me downs. No pram, no carseat, no bedding etc! Eek just freaked myself out a little!
