Both girls wanted to wear them without tights but I told them that they couldn't do this until 'summer' came and when 'outside is awake' when they go to bed.

So currently I've got 2 very excited girls about Sunday. Admittedly we're playing it up to them quiet a bit

    Author: Shelt
Subject: 40275
Posted: 22 August 2011 at 7:33pm

I told my DD and my 5 year old nephew when this came up last week that soon it will be spring and thats when it gets lighter at night. I told them that what happens is that because the earth tilts slightly as it spins then the days in summer are longer than in winter. So we set our clocks backwards to adjust the daylight hours to when most people are awake.
I also told them that they still have to go to bed at the same time, but it will be lighter because there it is daylight for a longer time.
Then I said something like it might be darker in the morning but you still have to get up, but we will have more time after daycare/school to do fun stuff outside.

That was about as simple as I could make it off the top of my head when the 5 year old nephew asked what it meant (I think he heard something about it on TV). They both accepted my explanation but I have no idea if they really understand it.
