I have had both. Dd was anterior estblished labour was 3 hours (12 hours in total but only ouchy for 3 )

Posteria one was more painful with pain between contraction as a well as during. It was long and hard work. He was also my first so that would also account for some of the extra pain me thinks.

I've had both and they both hurt like buggery,but Ty and C's (both posterior) had the more intense powerful contractions,Mila's (anterior) wasn't as bad,they were bearable...not painfree,but bearable,Ty's in particular were very intense...
C's labour was 24hours,(no pain relief)
Ty's,I was 4cms dilated for a week and a bit and having false labour on an off for two weeks,then actual labour was about 6hours (again no pain relief)

#1 was posterior- from when contractions were 3 mins apart, labour was 23 1/2 hrs long- ended in epi, every drip under the sun, catheter, vontousse delivery with 3 rows of stitches.
#2 labour was anterior. 9 hrs from when contractions were 5 mins apatr and becoming regular. DS was posterior, the contractions were full on and extremely painful from the beginning. They were all in my back resulted in me going to hospital a lot earlier (I was only 4cm) I had an epi which had to have many a top up and only ever worked on one side. I had a 20 hour labour from first contraction to DS arriving. It ended in a crash c-section under a GA due to fetal distress.

DD was a completely different story, she was anterior, contractions were so much more bearable and I was 7-8 cms when I arrived at the hospital. I used gas for a bit then asked for an epi which didn't get a chance to kick in before I was ready to push. I had a VBAC and labour was 9 hours all up.

First birth here was posterior, 22hrs from first ouchy labour contraction but had days of build up.

2nd anterior one was 5 hours whoa to go & no build up fricken painful but in the tummy area not in the back like the first.

Have had one of each. First was posterior and was very prolonged and painful in my back. Required many epi top-ups and vontouse delivery.

2nd was anterior and much quicker and less painful. Managed on just gas.

sorry baby brain! i meant posterior. my fist was posterior (didnt even know) and labour was so painful but she was turned during labour.

I've had 2 posteriors, both were anterior during pregnancy and turned during labour.

1st- really long labour ending in c-section.

2nd- brilliant, 3 hours all up no pain relief though needed an episiotomy due to distress.

I have had both.

ds1(posterior) - labour was 13hrs thats from when I knew it was certainly labour, there was also days of build up but that wasnt painful at all infact i was still working til day before he was born 2wks early. being my 1st term labour I had no idea what to expect and that made it better as I didnt have anything to compare it to. i got to the last hr with out any pain relief but he was still posterior when i wanted to push, manage to get him to turn on his own and he was born 30mins later.
labour was long and painful.

ds2(anterior) - labour was 1hr, there was a few days of build up but i went to bed with out any pain, work up at 2am suddenly in labour but i still thought it might be too early turns out i was 7cm and he was born before 3am.
labour short and certainly not as painful.

I have also had 2 more Anterior births both far quicker than ds1. ds3's was a little drawn out coz his head wasnt tucked in properly, but still easier than ds1's birth.

I've had both. Posterior was Daniel - 10hrs all up. Alex was anterior (though he was turning) and his was 5hrs. Alex's was actually more intense, maybe cause he was turning, maybe cause it was faster. Dunno. I've only had a posterior one, and it BLOODY hurt lol! I tried to be brave and not have an epi, and by the time I asked for it I was too late what a spaz I am!

I figure the next labour can only be as bad or better, not worse I've got another anterior placenta so there is a good chance of another posterior labour sigh.

Just wondering for those of you who have experienced both how was your anterior labour different to your posterior, faster, stronger, more painful? etc

DS was posterior and in the end c-section for obstructed labour. Going for a VBAC this time round and so far bub has been in a much more favourable position for an anterior labour/delivery although I know that could change at any point but I'm doing all I can to make sure it doesn't!
