Eeeks same here. Its $17 for adults at our Medical Center and nothing for under 6 year olds. Did you get to the Dr? Was it due to the injection or a viral infection? Not chicken pox?

Dr visits for under 6 are free if you go to your registered Dr. They are free if you go to the hospital A&E. I heard they were charging now. We go to Westgate after hours.   Haven't needed to go anywhere after 8pm thankfully.

White cross on lincoln road now charges $30 for under 6 year olds after hours...unless you are enrolled with certain Auckland central doctors :(

Personally after hours waiting at after hours doc was only $5 but it wa a 2 hour wait with DS needing a cut eye seen to. Next time we'll call an ambulance. It really annoyed me how much the A&E / doctors charged for babies / toddlers in chch. We tried to take DS when he was little and it was going to cost us heaps down there (week day, during the day) so we took him to my mums dr and paid about $25 - still far too much if you ask me. My dr on the shore costs nothing and neither does the local Accident and Medical clinic ... and its only a $10 surcharge at weekends.
No idea how chch justifies their charges, when rent, wages etc would be more expensive in ak!!

You don't think it could be hand foot & mouth? if its real measles she will need to be seen as its notifiable but my doc said they are ALWAYS grumpy and very unwell....not sure if he is right ? People are getting confused about the terms:

A&E (Emergency departments) in hospitals are free if you are a NZ resident or have specific visas

Accident and Medical clinics are privately owned and yes, you have to pay but they have payment plans. If she needs a bit of relief from the rash, you could bathe her in warm water with pinetarsol. Or with colloidal oatmeal - you can make your own by grinding up porridge oats in the food processor. Or a few tablespoons of baking soda.

They dont do that here. They make you pay first so you pay. I just CANT do it. a I cant afford it and b if I get stuck there in the snow i'm screwed!
Anyway, we rang the doctors AH line and they just said to give her paracetamol and tepid baths if she gets too hot. Her mouth and eyes are clear at the moment so we should be fine. If they've advised you of taking her to A&E and you can't risk being stuck or can't afford it, then ring A&E or the local hospital see what they say, I wouldn't risk it personally.

I would call Health line and see what they say. Pays to be safe with a rash. Is she running a temp?

DD1 developed a rash about 10 days after her MMR - looked like lots of little spots all over her chest and back. I phoned healthline then who told me it was a normal reaction - don't think it is as rare as all that.

Have you tried ringing the health line or your doctor's number which should go through to a nurse triage centre and they could advise you.

Okay, Lily had MMR 2 weeks ago and the nurse warned me that she might develop a rash 2 weeks after that was rare but can happen.. If I had a camera, i'd take a picture. She is covered from head to toe in a rash. Looks like proper measles. She's alert, merry (except for when I want her to eat or sleep) and isnt floppy or anything. What should I do? I cant go to the A&E because with the snow warning in CHCH, I take the risk of being stuck in the city. Plus I cant afford the fee. I can mission in the snow to the local doctor if they're open tomorrow tho.
