Definitely check out the Accommodation supplement through WINZ (have only just got around to doing it - DD is 6 months! - and was super surprised to find out we get $80 a week). There is a calculator on the Working for families website you can use to check your entitlement (it gave me a figure of $65 so may be a bit out).

With WFF you can choose to be assessed annually, so if you don't need that money to survive week to week, you can get assessed at the end of the financial year and would get a lump sum as opposed to weekly payments (good option if you're not sure what your income will be for the year).

As for other options to increase the cashflow - I believe you can now (as of April?) cash up your fourth week of annual leave which may give you a bit of a boost for buying things you need or putting aside.

Hi ladies, we were entitled to working for families tax credits and the $1200 payment but did not claim for until Phoenix was almost 20 months old. They back paid everything and we received 12k from the government. Which was lucky because I had a huge credit card to pay off due to thinking we missed the boat with the payments. Yep troutpout, thats what we are doing, and men don't get paid leave at any rate unless the woman is working and transfers it to him... sucks a bit. (That is just minimum the law requires if you're lucky your work might supply more) And I mean having a baby physically, adopting is different again.

PPL or PTC in your case having twins = PTC per child! so may work out about the same as PPL.

You can only get the $1200 one if you were uneligbale for the maternity leave. You only have 8 weeks to apply for it after bubs is born. You get either 14 weeks maternity leave OR the $1200 payment. Not both. There's something called a Parental tax credit. The handout I have (I've just been filling out all the forms and applying for things for the first time) says "You can get this paymet for eight weeks after a new baby arrives. You can receive up to $1200 depending on your family income. Yeah do find out about it if poss CC... my other sister had a baby 5weeks ago but Im not sure if she's received anything yet. I know they've got bub's birth certificate

Don't think we'll be entitled to a accommodation suppliment cos we've got pretty cheap rent but I'll check. Yeah Im a member of the Multiple Birth Club so I should double check with them.

I've also heard about the $1200 payment, as a lump sum... not sure on the details though. Must follow that up with a friend who got the payment & her PPL...

Depending on where you are you might get an accomodation suppliment to? Check out your local Multiple birth club, the other mums there would know all the extra's you get

I would say that is when you set up a kiwisaver for your newborn and it's $1000.

Ok so I know I’ll be entitled to maternity pay which is great, is there anything else we’ll be entitled to other than WFF? My sister said when she had her wee one 4 years ago, she got maternity pay and also a payment of like $1200 when she got an IRD number for her daughter. Is that right, do you still get that?
