I visited my normal GP at about 6w, who gave me forms for the first lot of bloods & a dating scan (8w). Then rang a MW and booked in to see her for the first time at 10w - needed to space it out a bit so we had something to look forward to otherwise I'd have burst with excitement.

I rang mine up at just before 6 weeks. Think we met that same week for us to check that we would get on etc and then didn't see her until just after 12 weeks when we had had the scan and first lot of tests. Usually a MW will want to see you early on to organise booking at hospital, blood tests, medical history and possibly an early scan. Most popular MW book up early so phone and meet them to make sure you both are comfortable with each other and she will then give you an idea of how often she wants to see you.
