Anything outside interests DS! Especially pegs & brooms. He also still has a fascination with my keys.

Top actual 'toys' would have to be his new tool bench and tools, books and shape sorter.

My daughter is obsessed with books. They are the best "toy" ever. She reads to herself (well turns the pages and babbles, shes only 15mths!) and brings them to us and gets us to read them to her a zillion times.

Best toy here is a plastic bottle that the put pegs in , shake out and put back in again. Also newspaper or cellophane crumpled into a sock and tied closed with string.

My DD loves her Thomas wooden train set. She plays with it every day and it was well worth the investment.

She also loves her teddy and wraps her up in a blanket and puts her to bed. Toywise, the one thing that has totally outdone itself on use is the good ole triang trike ($30ish) but DS at age 4 still hoons down the garden path on it.

Otherwise - some magic things found is a formula tin with slits in the top for posting milk bottle lids into

Photos! Often (when you get those cheap deals) we will get a whole lot of photos done, as well as a set for the children to use as they like. They have an albumn that they can put photos in, or they can use them under the magnets on the fridge, take them to preschool to show their friends, use them in their art work - it doesnt matter, it is their set.

Containers and lids. Just lots of containers and lids for stacking, putting treasures inside, opening and closing.

Planking is really popular here with my kids. Basically it is a big wide bit of wood. We put it on a slope off the coffee table and use it as a slide or car ramp. We put it from chair to coffee table and it is a balance beam, on the floor it is a stage. We have lots of planks and set up courses around the living room. My 17 mo is frighteningly good at it.

Other favourites are the water table with spoons/cups etc, and the cutlery drawer (on a chair while i cook).

Shape sorter also popular and books, books, books!

At the moment, the favourites are his board books (he'll spend AGES sitting looking and pointing), an empty pringles tube, two old shaving cream caps that he bangs together (weird, I know...) and a little hammer that makes lots of noise when you shake it.

None of them are very expensive, but in saying that he's had more pricey toys he enjoys too. DD1 got a set of stacking cups when she was born and she plays with them often to this day - so many uses for them.

My 18 month old has always loved the washing basket, he can get into it, put all his blocks/toys toys in it, throw all his blocks/toys out of it, pull it around, climb on it, have us pull him around in it.. My 15 month boys fav toys are drink bottle (doesn't matter what kind), cars cars and even more cars and the slide (thanks to the toy library)

4 year old will happily spend most of her day at her table drawing and colouring

Hi there
Here at OHbaby! we're looking at play and toys this month and we'd love to know what you found to be truly wonderful for entertaining/pacifying/teaching your baby, toddler or preschooler.
Remember, it doesn't have to be a "Toy" it might be the kitchen colander or something else from around the house. I know my 18-month-old and a very close relationship with an assortment of pegs for quite a while.
Anyway, let us know what got your kids excited - and why!
