I also used relaxation "tapes" (on my iphone) and listened to those to help me tune out at bed time.

One good relaxation method that worked for me was reciting the alphabet but saying each letter 3 times. You do it slowly so breathe in "A" breathe out "A" breathe in "A" ... in your head of course It gets you to focus on something other than the thoughts in your head, slows down your breathing and it did help me get back to sleep!

Good luck Mrs Mojo, sleep problems really suck

From a totally different perspective, my DH has ALWAYS had sleep issues and reckons "nothing works." He has recently been seeing an ENT about recurring throat infections which turned out to be chronic sinusitis. The ENT has vastly improved his sinus issues = his sleep has improved heaps!

I read it in a self help book - its called 'feeding the monkeys' where basically if you're having a rough time and you wake at 2am and start thinking over all your issues, well, your body recognizes that 2am is a GREAT time to wake up and think as its much more productive then thinking during the day, how excellent. So you start waking at 2am every night until you've trained yourself to wake. (I know how stupid this sounds). You had to break the cycle - waking briefly and writing it all down is a good idea, or counting, or meditating to block all thoughts from your head except sleep.
