Also I would leave a worn shirt in there and had a wheatpack to warm the cot up before we put her in so it wasn't a cold, sterile environment. She was about 4weeks old and the transition went pretty well from my rather dodgy memory.<br />]]>

We had DS2 in his own bed within 4 weeks and his own room by 8 weeks.  I just really don't sleep well with him on me, next to me or in the same room.  Just can't switch off to all those little snuffles. <br /><br />That was the soonest i could do it, going at his pace. DS1 was in own bed first night home and never looked back.  They are all so different. ]]>

I started with day sleeps which worked really easily then tried night time the next night. And not just with me - ON me. He sleeps full time in his cot now so obviously we transitioned at some point (he was 2 and a bit months when he did and is 5 months now) and i think it took about a week but buggered if i can remember how. I think i let him go back to sleep in bed with me but would move him into his own bed once he'd nodded off and he must have got the hint that no matter what he was going to end up back in his own bed in the end. Thats some scary memory loss there - but take heart, it is possible!]]>

The first time was awful trying to get him in his cot, but it took 12 mins of standing next to his cot, shushing/rocking/patting him etc for him to realise he WAS going to sleep in there! Lol... But our guy was a bit older when we started this...<br /><br />]]>

I'm interested to hear comments on this as well!  No previous experience with co-sleeping as my son always happily slept in his cot so this is all new territory for me.]]>
