She had wooden floor boards and no underfloor insulation and the damp was rising straight up from the dirt and into the house. We just brought some cheap groundsheets - doing the whole underneath of the house cost less than $100 from memory. Well worth it.

ETA to add by groundsheets I mean tarpaulans. She just got them from Bunnings I think.

Edited by Shelt

Its pretty cheap - we just had the house all costed from full insulation and that was one of the options they all suggested as it can be like a bloody swamp under ours. Landlady might go in for that as well as it was pretty cheap.

I regularly run the dehumidifier in his room with the doors open but it wasn't doing a hang of a lot so I went investigating...

Lifted the carpet (that was sitting loose in there) and discovered horrible black looking mould and white mildew was starting to grow on the floorboards (chipboard too, so what's the bet it's ingrained )

I got an anti-mould spray and gave that a go which has helped minimally and contacted my landlady... sadly there doesn't seem to be too much to solve the issue, just a whole bunch of stuff to temporarily treat the 'symptoms'

On the plus side, during my investigations I discovered the man-hole to under the house was hiding in that wardrobe (there isn't access from outside so thought it was impossible to get under there), so the landlady had a peak and has talked about getting the silver foil stuff put in (pity she won't go the whole hog and do full-on underfloor insulation)

Ooops, sorry for hte long rant and slight thread-jack
