Dishwasher powder! Not that I have a dishwasher, but that stuff is so caustic it melts the burnt stuff right off . Not really related but cocoacola is also a choice chicken marinade. And if you believe certain websites its a great spermacide too*. Almost as many uses as baking soda!

The magic trick for this is coca cola - I sh*t you not!!! Put coke in the pan and boil it, and all the burnt stuff will wipe straight off without even scrubbing. We always used oven cleaner... and cleaned it really well afterwards of course! At my work, if a chef burns a pot they have to clean it! So, as i am constantly burning pots my expert advice is to put in a good scoop of baking soda (i'm talking a couple of tablespoons) bring it to the boil and then simmer for at least 30min. Then leave it to cool down in its own juice. And then scrub scrub scrub. I have been told to use washing powder and water and let it boil for ages, apparently it helps to lift of the burnt parts so it's easier to clean. YES, BUT NOW WHAT DO I DO ABOUT THE PAN?????

    Firstly remove as much of the burnt food as possible.

    If it is only slightly burnt on the bottom, put some water into the pan and add quite a lot of salt, soak for an hour, then wash in the usual way.

    If it is badly burnt, put some water into the pan, add salt, bring to the boil and leave to soak for about twelve hours, bring to the boil again. The debris should wipe off.   If this is not the case add more salt and bring to the boil again.

    Add hot water to the pan with a used fabric softener sheet from your laundry. Let soak and the burnt crust will lift right off.

salt? I have had a few pots that have taken days to get back to pre burnt condition.

I have soaked for days in salt & then used a pot scrub...not the easiest job.
