I had a breech baby, tried everything to get her to turn - did the inversion thing, on hands and knees, accupuncture, moxibustion and had two attempts at ECV, however nothing worked and had an elective c-sec. I was so freaking out about having one but it actually wasn't anywhere near as bad as what i was imagining.

got to have cuddles while i was being stitched up and had skin to skin and first b/f in recovery. milk came in on day 3. recovery has been pretty straightforward.

so don't do what I did and freak out about a c-sec because it really isn't that bad.

my friend had a c./s for breech birth and found it a better experience than vb of her 1st child.

check out the pro c/s topic under c/s support

C/s is birth too, you can have a positive experience from it. I got to cuddle & b/f whilst getting stitches

i had a c/s after traumatic vb and loved every minute of it and am having another c/s in 15-17wks for this baby

My daughter was breech from 20 weeks and the day before my ECV my waters broke so off for an emergency (non-urgent) c-section. My birth was better than my first natural one. It was well supported, fun, and because I'd had surgery people were very understanding about the need to take it easy for the first couple of months. Because I went into labour I had no trouble with milk coming in - it was exactly the same as with my first birth. From another persective, my bub was transverse, then turned to breech at about 30 weeks, and there she stayed. We attempted an ECV at 37 weeks but she wasn't having a bar of it. We had an elective caesar planned for 39+2, but at 39+0 I went into labour and she was delivered by emergency (but non-urgent) caesarean. my son was breech till 38 weeks. A collegue and midwife was teaching another how to palpate a baby and that night he turned thankfully. There wasn't a whole lot of room at that stage and he'd pretty much spent half the pregnancy breech (a portion traverse and who knows what for the rest!)
I've heard that some folk swear by accupuncture (just never got around to it) or up till a certain point there are apparently some excersizes that you can do, I'm sorry I dont know what these are, but I know at 38 weeks I was too far along to try.

Both my boys were breech for a couple of weeks but turned naturally by about 36 weeks. I read the spinning babies website and used some of their suggestions, not sure what worked tho or if they would have turned anyway. I did the inversion things, swimming and acupuncture.

Swimming is supposed to be good but only kicking your legs like in freestyle- they say that legs up and down can help shift them (same as climbing steps really but more relaxing). They say not to do the breaststroke froggy kick as that can get them further engaged and harder to turn.

I also had acupuncture as my friend is an acupuncturist and was having it anyway.

I do also know people who have delivered breech naturally. I'm assuming from your signature that this is your first bub. If so, *most* mw wouldn't recommend a natural breech birth (if they know in advance that bub is breech of course). Hi Nightingale. I recently had a natural home birth with my breech baby boy. He'd been head down since 26wks, and was head down and fully engaged at my mw appt 6 days before he was born. He was born at 39w2d and in hindsight I'm pretty sure he turned in the day or two before he was born as I started feeling movements down low instead of to the left, and was in a lot more pain! But as it was the weekend I didn't think to tell my mw so we didn't know he was breech until I was pushing and a bum suddenly appeared

I know that probably doesn't help you, just wanted to show that you can still experience a natural birth if your baby is breech. My mw said if we'd known he was breech she still would have been happy for me to deliver naturally, but would have suggested going to the hospital instead of staying at home! But luckily in my case it all turned out perfectly (1.5hr labour and 15mins pushing, with a healthy baby at the end of it!)

DH thinks I'm a bit weird wanting him to turn so I can experience a natural birth when I could just have a c-section I don't like that sound of the recovery at all. Oh well, whatever will be, will be. I had a breech baby at my 35 week mw appointment. By my 36th week appointment he was head down and 4/5th engaged - he came 2 weeks later in a super hurry

Check out the spinning babies website. There are lots of non-invasive things you can do to turn him. Found out at my growth scan yesterday that we have a breech baby I was gutted because I have been reading so many books and was really starting to look forward to experiencing a natural labour and as we have chosen not to attempt an ECV (the reason being that I am just not comfortable with the risks involved - after 3 years TTC and 3 IVF cycles to get this baby, I'm just not prepared to take any chances even though I know the risks are slim). I have an appointment at the hospital for Thursday to see if he has turned and if not then we will be booked in for an elective c-section.

Has anyone else had a breech baby at this stage (I'm 35w4d) who has then gone on to turn on their own? What are the chances of him turning in the next week? He was head down from 28 weeks and I truly believe that the cheeky little monkey literally only turned breech the night before the scan as I got up in the night to go to the bathroom and was in alot of pain and now all of a sudden I can actually feel a head pressing up under my ribs (OUCH!) and the little flutters I used to get down low which I believe were his hands are now alot more prominent.
