I'm totally used to it now, and on the one hand I could get that it'd seem weird to someone who wasn't keen on blood, but on the other hand I think it helps you understand heaps more about your body and normalises the whole deal! My moon cup turned up just in time for the start of AF. I've been using it all day nd I'm surprised with how easy it has actually been. No leaks, no discomfort, brilliant.

I love my mooncup still! Been using it about 3 years now and absolutely hate it when I forget it on holiday or whatever and have to use tampons. Argh.

The only time I feel it in is on my heaviest days when it gets full. Took a while to figure out that that's what it was though. heh.

Every now and again I get leaks during my heaviest nights but usually it's because I've been lazy about putting it in and haven't fitted it around cervix properly, as others have mentioned.

I brought mine from enviromensturals, had to get the cheapest as I had no money, it also happened to be one of the smaller size ones. I talked to mum about it last night saying I was thinking about it and she thought it was interesting. But you just have to make sure you don't get anything inside your body thinking it was harmful to you, pffft no more harmful then the bleaches and things that go on a tampon. Oh she also thought that it shouldn't be rinsed in the sink because thats where you wash your face. She's a bit in to the Maori culture thing. I pointed out that in the shower you wash your body and face and that you are often washing away blood and dirt there.

I also think that the stigma of menstruating means that you think the blood is dirtier then a on a finger or elbow.

I bought a lady cup from mothers instinct, Mainly becasue it was the only one I could find...and also I read up on a blog(i'll see if I can dig it up) and it had the best over all marks.

Could be Biz I've had a prolapsed/semi-prolapsed (is that the right term lol) cervix with both the boys and after Ty it took aggggges to sit right back up. i have a love hate relationship with mine. sometimes it just pops in and everything is hunky dory then the rest of the time it seems to almost fall out and i have to keep re inserting it. I have a mooncup. I found it didn't sit properly for awhile after I had #2 because my cervix was so low I couldn't pop it in high enough.
I think its great though and highly recommend them. I don't get leaks though I tend to use a mama liner just coz its habit now. I read something somewhere that if you stop using tampons/pads and switch to cloth/cups over 90% of women find they have significantly less cramping plus their cycles can be alot lighter. You can get them at various places on the internet (like here if you want a NZ site). I heard about them through and American forum where everyone raved about them. I only chose mine because it was the only one I could find on Trade Me at the time (a Green Donna, but I'm not sure if they make them anymore).

It's kind of hard to choose! It helps if you have an idea of your...er, size. Looks like MeLuna (from a brief glance), but you may need to have a look at that chart I linked as I just had a really quick look. I think MeLuna also comes with different stems (ball, ring, normal stem, or no stem).

Oh, I just remembered something you might want to try. On another forum, some ladies were talking about how their Diva Cups were too long, so they turned them inside out, which made them shorter, so they fit better. MrsMC... I had to cut the stem of my mooncup completely off, so totally know what you mean.

Does the Diva cup come in different sizes? Maybe you need a larger size?

Totally love my Mooncup, but there was a pretty steep learning curve the first 3 or 4 AFs. Sooo worth it though. I have PCOS and have super heavy AF. On a light one, I'll fill it completely around 8x and on a heavy AF I can fill it fully about 12x ! So I were a liner, just to give me piece of mind. I rarely have a leak, and if I do it's because I've filled it quicker than I thought I would ie: less than 2 hrs.

That might be your problem. I've heard the Diva Cup is the longest cup out there. We're all different shapes and sizes, and that includes down there, so you may just need one that's a better fit.

Stems are not necessary. I cut mine off completely. its a diva cup, maybe it does need to go in further but i do try! it just slips down and thats where it seems to sit, maybe my insides are just deformed, i never have any trouble with tampons though

ETA wouldnt you have the same prob if the stem was longer, surely some has to stick out?

i have one but never got the hang of it, i chopped the stem as short as possible, and managed to get it in etc but the stem sits just inside and kind of pinches skin when i sit down if that makes sense

Minipig, there is a bit of a learning curve involved in inserting and removing them, but I haven't found it to be too uncomfortable. You fold it so it's smaller, put it in, and kind of give it a few twists around to make sure it's popped open properly. There are a few different folds you can do; some people find certain ones easier.

Removal can be a bit tricky the first time. You just bear down and pinch the bottom to break the seal. It is pretty uncomfortable if you just pull on the stem while it's still suctioned in. But as long as you don't do that, it's cool. It's certainly not as unpleasant as removing a dry tampon (owwww).

You can't feel it once it's in, if you've inserted it properly. I can sometimes feel when it's very full as it sits a bit lower because it's heavy. Otherwise, it's like it's not even there! The good thing is that it doesn't absorb any other moisture, and air doesn't get to the blood (so there's no smell).

Are they uncomfortable to insert / remove?
And can you feel it once it's in?

This is so true. If you think about it, tampons are pretty grotty. I did heaps of research before being totally convinced it was the way to go. I decided to go with the mooncup. It took me ages to pluck up the courage and make the move and honestly it is the best thing ever!! Having AF is no longer something I dreaded getting each month, it makes it soooo much easier! It definately stops that "dry" feeling that tampons create. I was pleasantly surprised!

Oh yes. I couldn't live without mine. It took me AGES to suck it up and buy one. But now I wouldn't go back.

I use liners at night for the first few days aswell. Other than that I empty first thing in the morning, and the shower at night so it can get a good rinse. Then once or twice during the day. I have a heavy flow so... yeah.

LOL my last AF I had 1 tampon left from ages ago so decided to use it. UGH never again!!!!

I love mine too! Never thought I would but, now that I have made the move I will never look back. I use a cloth pad for the first few days as backup as my AF is quite heavy for the first 2 days. I use at night and change if I up, but otherwise leave in from around 10pm until 6.30am.

Big fan here too, and yep, use it all night. On days that I've had a heavier flow I'll use a cloth pad (or you could use a liner) as well overnight JUST in case, but don't usually leak, it's more of a peace of mind thing (still, after 3 years!). Love mine too - never had any leaks (even overnight), and it's so convenient not having to carry a box of tampons around with you! I have one (not the same brand, but same idea) and I LOVE IT!

I only got to use it once before getting pregnant, and I left it in at night and didn't have any overflow issues. However, in the one AF I have had since giving birth, things were pretty different and heavy (hopefully a one-off!) and it did overflow overnight for the first two nights. I think this will be something you will have to judge for yourself, depending on your flow.

It's great though; it's nice to not have to change it every time you go to the loo. Also, after a while you can kind of feel when it gets full (it sits a bit lower) so it's not going to leak unexpectedly during the day unless you've put it in wrong.

I haven't bought anything to use with AF since I got my moon cup, last year some time. Empty it before I go to bed & then I usually get up around 6.30am so empty it then. On the first couple of days I have to go straight to the loo but later in my AF I don't have to hurry as much.

Longest you are supposed to have one in is 12 hours. I always rinse under the hot tape before night time.
