Daily Post did a list last year (september I think) of all the places.
Do a google search of locals deals and you should find a list of them all.

Skyline don't do one these days but they have a card you can buy for a year which give syou free gondola rides and cheap luge rides as well as a discount in the restaurant.

There was a locals week in November organised by Destination Rotorua.

ok so I rang some places today and this is what they said for residents of rotorua provided you prove identity with a bill or other with your address and photo i.d.

 

  • waimangu volcanic valley - half price walks so adults $17.25, kids $5.50
  • Wai-O-Tapu - free
  • Hells gate - 1 free local with every paying customer, only for the walks.
  • Orakei Korako - pay for the first visit and show your id and stuff and they will give you s frequent visitors card which makes subsequent visits free.
  • Waikite Valley - $9 for adults, $5 child (5-15 yrs) $3 under 5 yrs
  • Paradise valley springs- half price.

I Know in Rotorua almost all the tourist places have free or discounteed admission for locals - I keep a bill in my handbag and always ask, the buried village is free (better than $30 a head!), and Waikete pools are heaps cheaper to.

In chch you can get a discount of some kind for the antarctic centre and used to be on the trams and gondola too, not sure they're still going. I know that in Auckland the museum, and maritime museum are free to auckland residents. Motat often has a month where its free with proof of address too.

I am planning to take my daughter to Rainbow Springs for her birthday in a couple of weeks, I mentioned it to my neighbour yesterday and he told me to ask them about the locals discount. Turns out if you are a Rotorua or Bay of Plenty resident you can get a card for $20 that entitles you to:

"Free Admission to Rainbow Springs for up to 2 adults and 2 children until November.
(up to 3 extra children can be added for $5.00 each)
10% discount in our gift shop
10% discount in our cafe
The locals card is available to residents of Rotorua and the Bay of Plenty and all we need is photo ID to organise it all for you and the family"
