re: Kellys post - i 'felt' that i had a girl for a large portion of my early pregnancy, brought girls clothes and all. The deciding factor for finding out the sex was that i didnt want to give birth to a boy and feel even a moment of disappointment because it wasnt the girl i'd thought it was the entire pregnancy. Lucky, as it was, becaus i did have a boy and i was certainly a little disappointed at the anatomy scan with all my girl dreams crushed but i'd 200% rather have had the disappointment at the scan then at the birth.

i think its pretty appalling that there is even discussion on it, how offended would any of you be if there was speculation that you had chosen your baby's gender in such a public way? I could see when I visited how much she loved him,but I could also see how disappointed she was that she didn't get the baby she had envisioned,and my heart broke for her,its not accepted in society to be disappointed when you don't get the gender you want,when there are so many couples just hoping for a baby full stop,its seen as ungrateful to be disappointed,but she didn't WANT to be disappointed,she just couldn't help how she felt.
14 weeks after he was born their son was diagnosed with Downs syndrome, and it added insult to injury, she no longer cared what gender her son was,she just wanted him to be ok ....those were some pretty dark times, she was pretty angry at the world, and felt doubly disappointed,first for not getting the girl she desired,and secondly for her son not being "normal ", she came out of that rut,the clouds lifted and I honestly don't know of many mothers who love their son as much as she does,the pride she takes in his smallest achievements,is beautiful.
BUT they are going to be trying for another baby soon,their last,and yes,she desperately hopes for a girl, and if its a boy,yes,she will be disappointed,even while her heart breaks with love for him.
And you know what? I will be praying that the baby is not only healthy, (and I know that will be their first prayer too) but that its a girl,I would love them to have a girl, they deserve it after everything they have been through,and besides, Caitlyn would love another sister.


As for being upset for months...I don't think anyone willingly chooses to feel that way,who would choose to feel upset? somethings you just can't help.

Can't be bothered reading all the replies,BUT I will say,that you certainly have a higher chance of having the same sex with each that you get,BUT its not impossible to have 3 or 4 of the same,then a different gender,and its possible that happened to them.
I know of at least 4 women who had all boys then a girl, (and one family that had 3 girls,then a boy ) and one thing they all had in common, was a biggish age gap between the last boy,and the girl.
In their case they also do, their youngest is 6.

I guess if they do have a girl then people with say they gender selected & if they have a boy it will be oh poor her another boy..she did not get her girl.

Hmm haven't really thought too much, but on the gender thing and chances...

First time, you have 50/50
2nd time, you have a 52/48 chance favouring the sex of the child you already have
3rd time, that can up to as much as 75/25 - this is based on the assumption that the male may produce more of one gender's sperm than the other, that the mother may have a better environment for fostering the growth of a certain gender's embryo, and also there are some schools of thought on it being more difficult to conceive a girl after having a boy if closer together, as your body has had a bigger chemical change producing a boy than a girl.

You also have a niece (you're only one unless little brother eventually has a girl ) that you are more than welcome to spoil rotten but I can understand wanting to have your own daughter so you can have the mother/daughter relationship like you've had with mum

hmm. sorry but i dont think i can judge them on this one.

I have 4 boys and I love them and have never once knowing what they were wished them anything else. however if i was asked what is the one thing i want more than anything I would have to say a little girl of my own.
we are ttc for our next child and honestly if we had that kind of money to throw away and in a country with that freedom of choice I too would proberbly do it. but then if i had that kind of money i would happily have 10 kids lol but then I can birth naturaly i dont have to worry about saftey of multiple c-sections.

Imo you get what you get. If you WANT a baby then accept what you get.

Mil has 3 boys but had 2 miscarriages in between each, she gave up trying for a girl as she was worried of another M/C but she's very glad to have a granddaughter!

Also DPs gran has 4 boys and her youngest 5th child is a girl. Mils mum has 2 boys and 2 girls.

My dad has 3 boys and 1 girl from his previous marriage and then me to my mum.

I have 3 gorgeous boys & when I was in hospital pg with DS2 before he was born my room mate was pg with her second boy & she told me she cried for months after she found out she was having a boy as she wanted 1 of each & they were not having any more, she still had not come to terms with it & we were 8mths pg then. Ive got one of each .. and boys are such a pita! they never stop moving or putting their hands in anything dirty or dangerous .. seeeeesh give me girls anyday.

I am definitely suspicious that they've by-passed biology and gone for a designer baby mainly 'cause it's been well documented how they've longed for a girl, they move to the States where gender selecting is allowed (from what I understand, in the UK it isn't), they have the money to pay the high price for the right specialists and lastly, after quite some time saying they love the lifestyle etc in the US and that they were going to sell 'Beckingham Palace' she's preggers and now that all changes....

Granted, my opinion has been formed from piecing together bits I've read and heard in (generally gossip) media and lord knows you can't trust that!

So guess it'll be forever unknown. Yeah I agree PB, I have heard them say several times that they really want a girl, add that together with millions of dollars and access to the best specialists and I wouldn't be surprised if they engineered it themselves. I don't see anything wrong with people wanting to try for another baby if they have all the same, don't think it says they love one sex more than the other. Not every one gets one of each, not every one cares, I will always wish I had a daughter but not at the sake of my boys. But I do see how some would do all they can to achieve the result they want.

I've got 3 boys and then just had a girl so it can happen, but who knows we'll probably never know whether it was engineered to have a girl or not.

I am suspicious I must say, they have been open in interviews previously about how they would love a little girl.

I know someone with 3 boys & then a girl & is pg again & she is hoping for another boy. They did not try anything to get a girl as they did not care either way.

I know someone who kept trying for a girl after 4 boys & had twin boys & then gave up.

DH has 4 boys & we keep trying hoping for a girl after our 3 boys, not that we really cared if it was a boy & have not gotten pg.

That's interesting. Are you sure that report isn't just like another magazine speculating that they have announced it cause on E ta couple of days ago a reporter was talking to them and they said they weren't going to find out the sex of the baby until it was born and quashed all the roomers that it was girl. How "statisticaly" can the chances be in anyone's favour for a girl after 3 boys?? Simple biology determines that each time you are either getting an x or y chormosome from Dad, the gender of you other children is totally irrelevant. Its always 50/50. If you did a comparison of 4 child families, each combination of boys vs girls would be roughly the same. Crikey one of my friends is from a family of nine girls!
