We are getting water from Rolleston and just heating it for dishes etc (we have no hot water anyway, and on a waiting list to get a hot water cylinder).

The kids and I shower in Rolleston too (oldest has an immune disorder so I'm very cautious about what he comes in contact with). Kids clothes are washed out there too, my clothes are washed here.

In regards to the dishwasher you could run as per normal and just to be on the safe side - add a teaspoon of bleach in the rinse cycle.

Interesting to hear what others are doing. I have kind of been thinking like you Angie though my boys wash with tap water. Though I would really like to switch to tap water. How is the dishwasher on water usage? Is it better to do one full load of dishes or 3 hand washes, in terms of water consumption? Such a minefield, we're really lucky with water and power but I don't want to be making life harder for other families and the maintenance workers. We're still actively conserving water (only flushing toilet when necessary, minimal use of washing machine etc). Hope that everyone is doing OK and hanging in there.

I use boiled water for the dishs and anything else that comes into contact with stuff me and my boy ingest (this includes his bath water as he can't resist sucking on the flannel!). May be a little OTT but I am a single mum and it would be really unmanageable if either of us got gastro!

We are just using our dishwasher as well, but if we wash up by hand we're using the hot water straight out of the tap. I'm just washing up using tap water. We have gas hot water and I have it at the hottest it will go at 55 degrees, with no other water added. I figure it's hot, I'm using detergent, it should be okay. I used boiled water for the jug, drinking and cooking etc. We only got water back on wednesday, but we're all healthy so far in our house.

What are you guys all doing, if you currently have running water? We are using our boiled water and doing it in as little water as possible. Is anyone using tap water or their dishwasher?
