As yesterdays events have showed so cleary you are not always at home when it hits, I wasn't. We also after Sept split our water across two parts of the house, some in the garage and some in the kitchen in case our supply ended up under rubble in one area. With the water you need to stock pile enough to drink, wash, clean teeth and cook with. Remember also to have enough drinking water for your pets. civil defence has rough guideline amounts for humans and pets per day. We have been stockpiling and have more than a weeks worth, so glad we did it, even though I was pretty sure chch wouldn't have another big one

Also very depressing but have pictures of love ones in your kit, in case you are trying to find them and need to show them to emergency workers, hospitals etc.

Am thinking sleeping bag, torch, batteries, radio, tinned food... Baked beans, spaghetti, soups, maybe crackers?, sleeping bags, nappies for DD but that's tricky because she's growing so quick, what size?! Maybe just old school flats! Spare clothes maybe x3, water bottles, not sure what to use for cooking - can't use electrics if power is off (esp if it's for safety reasons) gotta be careful with matches/gas...
Will have to get more pet food as we got a new dog, and will probably pack our tent near by too (it needs a good clean)...

Feels like packing for going camping...

ETA: Adding in those metal bowls and utensils that Kathmandu sell + tin opener...

Edited by Lil_Nic9

We keep a store cupboard of food but its in our pantry and water in there too. Hadnt thought of pet food though
What kind of water purification tablets do people have? I have no idea where to get them from so have saved water with 2 drops of janola in it (thats how my MIL told me to do it), have bought bottled water for drinking though
