I see now that their tamerelo (sp) tree is growing huge it blocks one of their windows looking into us and they have started growing one outside their bedroom window - although I am sure they still can see in it does block a bit

My parents dining room windows face the shared driveway and there are 4 other houses that use it. Mum took the sheer curtains down to let more light in. So that the neighbours can't see in too well Dad built a frame and put that Japanese trellis on it. They have stained it black and I think they are going to grow a couple of shrubs in front of it, it looks really striking. Anyway there is a garden under the window then a path before the frame and trellis so probably about 1.5-2m between house and screen so doesn't block any light but does obscure the view of anyone on the drive. It might be more expensive than curtains but looks really good

ETA: or could you put trellis or something along the fence line to block their view but not block your sunlight?

Thaks for all your ideas - tinting and stickers won't work as we have old windows with leadlight crossing on them.

I did like the sunscreen blind idea and might look into that.

we are about 3 mt away from Neighbours windows (bedroom and office for them) we do have rodo's (plants) outside our window but find if we let them grow too high (to block neighbours) we get hardly any light come in.

Stupidly I read this as "noisey" neighbours, and thought you might have advice for getting those b-tards in the corner apartment from "slamming their door and making everything shudder" and "playing tennis against the bedroom wall".

Just as bad as "nosey". Why are people so completely disrespectful! I've just frosted the girls windows with frosted window film off TM but it does block the view full stop, as do the white pvc blinds we have on our lounge windows- quite cheap from WH. Supercheap has that stick on mirror tint stuff, for car windows but that could work. A friend of mine has recently had her sliding door windows tinted - works really well as I can't see a damn thing when I knock on their door, even when I'm standing right in front of it! And from the inside it is only slightly tinted, kinda like one of those mirrors where you can see through one side but the other side is a mirror... Sounds like my neighbours. We have an old couple next door and their kitchen looks straight into our living room!
Unfortunately we have big bi-folding windows on that side that I open all the time so not much will work here!!!

We are considering getting some durasel kind of stuff and its clear looking from one side, but mirrored on the other side? Could you do the same? how bout some of that window tinting stuff? or big window stickers that will allow the light in but obstruct his view. i hate nets too. we have a privacy screen outside our kitchen window as it is quite close to the neighbours. it is kind of like wooden fencing but its those horizontal slats (thin ones) put up high on poles.it sits right on the fence line but isnt a fence so i dont think is covered by the fencing rules.

we got blinds, just freedom ones they're great just tilt them so the sun comes in but the neighbours cant see in you'd be amazed at how much they block out when still quite open.

Ugh I hate curtrains too. I'd wouldn't  mind some nice tab top sheer sort of the, otherwise we put up pitasporans(can't spell) to block out our neighbours. I hate nets as well but have them for that exact reason. We just had the curtains and new nets done for our bedroom and I hated feeling 'exposed'. You can get good roller blinds that are kind of mesh like that block out the view (if looking outside to the inside) but dont block out the light.....we got some of these for our old place and they were great!

We currently don't have any nets on our windows - I really loath them and really don't want to get any - But our lounge window faces our neighbor - who is increasingly telling us he keeps and eye on our house - cause he can see right in! He's not shy in saying so (i'd never admit anything like that)

We have nothing to hide but starting to think we don't want him knowing our every move - so recommend me your 'blocking out the neighbours idea"
