Its very simple - every company who telemarkets in nz MUST abide by law with the marketing association rules.
Oner of those rules is that a company CANNOT legally call anyone`who has registered their name on the Marketing Associations DO NOT CALL REGISTER. Any phone list they buy/rent must be washe against this list.

I get the odd telemarketer call, but they all seem pretty good, I politely say we're not interested and they thank me for my time.

I only get the scam ones at work (none at home, so far). It's funny getting them all tangled up. I got in an argument with one woman who couldn't answer any of my questions and kept insisting I put her through to the managing director. She ended up hanging up on me. It was fun. I've had those too but when they say "can I speak to the owner of the phone" I say "No!" That really confuses them. They then ask if I am the owner of the phone "No" "Oh, is the owner of the phone there" "No" "Oh, when will they be there?" "No!" etc etc etc. I say nothing other than No....if they are lucky otherwise as soon as they ask I hang up.   Piss me right off!! Ugh, they kept ringing my house, even though I kept telling them I didn't have windows and didn't care if they wanted to do things to my computer, they couldn't.

In the end, I said "wait here a minute"... and left the phone on the coffee table. The guy held on for about ten minutes before hanging up. He never called back. They have only rung once here, about a month ago. I got so angry and told them not to f@#$ing ring again, and they haven't!!! So far.

Argh those people are so annoying. We had someone guys ringing in December they rang every night for a weeks or so at the same time. Sometimes there was no one on the phone, you'd say hello and it would be dead. But they kept asking for the main internet user casue they were gettign reporrts abouts viruses on our computer. and they wanted to talk me through fixing it, but i had to go online....... We have dial up so taht wasn't going to work so they asked for a cell number, like hell I was going to give that out to some random. And they would not take no for an answer. This reminds me of the heat pump scam.... People ringing up charging to clean your heat pump

I think they were charging like $200 or something ridiculous. Our family in Chch were getting it done for their Mum and did NOT believe us it was a scam! LOL.This is what DH would do. I just asked them what company they work for and they hang up. Havnt rang back since.

They called us twice last night - DD answered first and was talking to him about kindy for about 5mins...then when I got on, I said "oh, so this is a scam" - the answer was "no madam, it's a serious problem that you need to address".   DP ended up ranting at them when they rang back and they didn't call back. Persistant though!

Our phone number isnt listed in the phone book so we dont get any of those calls. Next time a new lot of phone books are about to come out ask to be removed from the list.

But for now, definitely keep a track of the date and time they are ringing! Haha they did that to my parents then a few weeks later we got a call. I said what a load of BS and hung up. They rang back a few days later and DH told them we had a mac pc (we don't) so he said I'll put you on to my supervisor. He quickly said sorry can't help and that was the end of that!

Write down the dates / times of the calls and give Telecom a call - they can log them as nuisance calls (if it is happening often enough). Have a look at this for more info -

We keep getting phone calls from people asking if they are speaking to the owner of the phoneline then they say they are ringing about our windows operating systems and thats as far as I have let them get before hanging up on them
