He will go to his dad but only if I am in sight and DH has to work hard to keep him occupied.

DS1 was also similar and it does get better. He loves being with his daddy now, though he still has a very strong attachment to me.

I just have to make sure he is ok i.e. not hungry, sleepy, cold etc and then engage him in a toy or game with whoever is watching him before I can leave the room. Although sometimes even that doesn't work in which case I make sure im right there to comfort him.

My DD2 was exactly like that too for quite some time, and we really just had to wait it out and keep trying to create smaller 'moments' where they would do something together - walk around the yard, do a puzzle etc.

They also start to experience separation anxiety at this age, ie: they start to understand that you and they are separate beings but not that you'll come back if you go away (regardless of how quick).

I know it's hard, but I promise it will pass! DD2 is 18mos now and adores her Daddy time.

Is this quite normal at this age?

He absolutely loves his dad from a distance with lots of waves, excitement, reaching out, smiles etc etc, however as soon as dad gives him a cuddle or watches him while I cook dinner or something, my DS cries and cries...so much that I have to cuddle him to console him.

Any ideas how to make him more at ease with his dad? Although hubby is okay about it, I know it does hit a sensitive spot
