I've now tried it with the infant insert and its awesome! I can take my newborn with me round the farm no worries. I love mine, so handy to just chuck it on if your doing quick jobs in town, saves your arms and back from carrying a heavy toddler! I absolutely love mine. No problems with it, though going from front carry to back carry is more of a learning curve. We got a black one and DH is happy using it. Are you using it on the front ? Sounds like your shoulder straps are too tight. I find the shoulder straps need to let out quite a bit for front carrying. And you can adjust the chest strap's height. If you jiggle the buckle thingees it'll move up or down . Honeybunsma I use ours with DD who is nearly 3 and about 14 kg ish and really tall. We used ours recently at the airport to keep her contained while checking in etc. Was soooo handy. Much easier than a stroller and they fold up really small too.   I often take her places in it to that a bit further than she would walk and just let her down when we get there.

The limit is 20 kg on a manduca but patapums have a 25 kg ( i think) limitand they are about 1/2 the price and still comfy I've had one.

Question DD is about 14kg and 18 mths we're going to Aus in March and was thinking of using a carrier, we will have a stroller I can borrow from my brother but was thinking a carrier may be easier to go through airport and stuff. How old do you guys with older toddlers use them?

I have one, LOVE it. And I adore front-carrying DD with her facing inwards. She just looks sideways when she wants to see stuff, and I her little face looking up at me, and being able to plant kisses on her forehead and chat to her about stuff

I have a very tall female friend who has one and loves it too (and she's tried a few kinds).

I used my Manduca with my newborn. There's an insert built in so no need to purchase an extra one like with other carriers. Well it wasnt hard after all- managed to convince DH that we would be getting more value for $ if we buy one now so we can still use it with Aiden and when we have the next baby, rather that just waiting til the next baby. MooCow - I've ordered a manduca and it should get here in a couple weeks when I've paid it off. You can compare the comfort if you want? DH said the manduca was super super comfy compared to the ergo! I got the turquoise one when tweedle were having a 15% off sale so less than $200.

LOVE,LOVE, LOVE our one as well. Use nearly every day (compared to the buggy which gets used once every fortnight for the library) and Tom is just settled and happy in it,  He doesn't have a problem facing me and still manages to have a good look around at everyone and then if he gets tired has a nice cuddle

Oh cool. Was gonna wait to get one when preg with #3, but might try and convince hubby that we need it now, since reading that others use them for older toddlers. We borrowed an older style carrier but I find it too awkward to get DS into position on my back on my own now.

Sorry this is totally thread-jacking, and I'm not even pg yet, but curiosity has got the better of me-- does the manduca suit taller Dads? My DH is 6'5" and I want to get something that we be comfortable for both of us. This is a problematic question. While some babies decide they like to see more at around 3-4 months, please consider these points before turning them forward facing in your carrier, and especially a frontpack.  

Overstimulation- baby is forced to look at everything in front of them. They can't get away, can't retreat when the sensory overload gets too much for them to cope with. 

Crotch-dangle- is made even worse by facing baby outwards.  A lot of weight is resting on baby's crotch/genitals, which is unhealthy especially for baby boys! 

Gravity pull- suspending baby from your front means their weight is pulling down and out on you, making your body compensate.  This is not desirable at all, and can make you quite sore.

Exposed- baby is more vulnerable to objects, people, and weather conditions when facing out.   

Remember, baby is more comfortable, and better positioned, when facing you in a carrier.  There is plenty to see if they turn their head. You could try a hip carry if they are old enough, or a back carry if they really want to see.  

If you do decide to face baby out, watch them carefully for signs of overstimulation.  Turn them back towards you when you notice this happening.  Dress baby appropriately.  Be aware of who is 'getting in baby's face' and try to protect them.

If you decide to face outwards in a Mei-tai or SSC, remember to tilt their hips like Kelley at Kozy Carriers does, so their legs are angling UP, and they are sitting instead of dangling.  If in a wrap, spread the fabric as much as you can between the legs so they are seated.  Cloth nappies often provide a nice bit of crotch bulk to spread the weight. 

In most good carriers you can face baby forward but with their legs folded up in front of them, called a Kangaroo or Buddha carry. This is more desirable than leaving the legs to dangle, and is perfectly comfortable for your baby.  (They've folded them up for over 9 months already!)

It had crossed my mind, Mummy Freckle, and I think from memory you can go forward facing in the Beco. I'm not overly keen on forward facing mainly because I can't see his face and what he is thinking/enjoying/disliking etc. I am also not keen on other people getting that close to his face and he can't get away IYSWIM.

I am hoping that the back carry gives him the advantages of being forward facing but with none of factors I mentioned above.

One of the things I was worried about was that you cant forward face bubs in the front carry - do any of your bubs have an issue with this?

I love mine, it probably dont use it as much as I could, but its so handy when flying, I can just put DD in it while in the plane, and get off and walk inside no worries and vise versa. I absolutely have no regrets. I have a few carriers now, and the manduca is always the first one I reach for.

I wouldn't be without ours    I love the extendable back and the fact the hood is easy to fold away when not in use. And they are so very very comfy.
And the limited editions are purty
They also have excellent resale value.

I've also had a toddler Patapum and it was great as well was very comfy easy to use as well.

We have a manduca- DH wasn't sold on getting it but know he calls it his MAN - duca and always tells me it is his turn to wear it. He never wore the Moby when she was smaller - too tricky for him but I loved it.

I have a Beco and have tried a Ergo and Manduca. If I went back in time, I would have got a Manduca. I think I am pretty much sold on the Manduca, just need to pluck up the courage to actually buy it and part with the money.

So has anyone bought one and regretted it? Or wished they bought something else?

I don't think I have come across much negative stuff about it but would be interested.
