63 newborn sized knitted cardigans for our November baby. From MIL.
As well as about 10 boxes full of (ugly and/or stained) clothes that we never used.

We did find about 20 of the old style cloth nappies among the many many many piles of things she turned up with, they were appreciated and quite a few muslin cloths.

My mum hates wrapping and will give DD's presents early and without being wrapped and then when her birthday and Christmas came around and everyone was giving wrapped presents she didn't have anything to give lol. I have seen t-shirts for babies that have "the condom broke" on them and another one I can't remember, but it was along the lines that the baby was never wanted - horrible!

We haven't had anything too weird. hah, i quite regularly buy my skanky friday night clubbing outfits from the kids section in famers/kmart, which is great for me because they're cheaper then adults clothing but a little terrifying that they're not meant for adults, but for kids.

dd's grandmother on her father sside bought her a hideous wooly , grren, very expensive looking cardigan for her 1st birtday that was 3-6month age . She hadnt seen dd since she was born ( and still hasnt made any effort and shes 18mths old) so i understand she may not of known how big she was but still 3-6months???? its the only thing shes ever bought her too (apart from some overly expensive teddy thing when she was born ).

We were very lucky with presents, didn't have anything way out. Nothing as funny as what's been mentioned

ETA Kind of unrelated, but on the gifts thing - my friend asked me if I minded a second-hand gift, as she wanted to give me a baby swing, but obviously couldn't afford to go round giving new ones as gifts. I thought it was nice to ask (and I have no issues with secondhand stuff at all, so was very grateful for it).

MIL sent a snow suit from the UK. It was for a 3-6 mth old and DD was 6 months in Feb so it still has the tags on it 2 years later. If we have a really long, cold winter and this baby is big then perhaps we will use it this year, or maybe not.
My Nana also gave her a boys checked shirt. She said she knew it was for boys but the fabric was nice and soft! huh? I gave a friend who had baby in Oct a glass wine bottle stopper, but it was a follow-up to a convo we'd had about people giving us the usual baby stuff despite being on our 3rd & 5th babies. She gave me a gorgeous art glass ball (same range as the stopper I got her), I love it. Weird but we know each other well enough to do weird iykwim. She sent me an email (she lives in the UK) that she'd sent me a package with some jackets and that she'd bought baby her first fur coat . Not exactly top of my "must buy" or even "that would be nice" lists but I thought it might be funny to share if anyone else had been bought things that may not be the most appropriate for a new born.

Surely it wont be real fur??!? Will be interesting to see when it arrives!

We received a couple of soft toys that have never seen the light of day (in fact I think they went to the sallys) they were cheap $2 shop type ones, and just didnt really want them near baby.

We got a couple of bottles of wine, and a good friend bought me a basket of divine goodies that I hadnt been able to eat whilst preggers (ie gourmet pate etc) but I dont think we got anything wierd!

Some people are weird and/or have a strange sense of humor.

We got given a packet of bibs from the IL's. They looked real cheap and I saw them in a $2 shop the other day... I almost feel a bit offended by that. I was sent over a newborn snow suit for DS, it came from family in Ireland and 'just in time for when he's born'... he was a Jan baby!!! I still have it though lol

We got a necklace (an adult one in a plastic packet) and a packet of baby carrot seeds from a weird friend. They were both presents for Chloe.

The same friend also gave her an enormous teddy bear, which is much bigger than her, but at least that was a normal gift!
