We are with vodafone for phone didnt cost to set up and because its a wireless job you can unplug it and take to next house when you move with no charges or need to change #. Fantastic idea when renting.

Power wise, we just stayed with the company that already had the house conneceted although dhs family have all just moved to powershop.co.nz and it seems like a good deal, i still have to look into it but we will change if all good.

Depends on the house - if the power has been totally disconnected by the previous tennents you will have to pay to be 'put back on the grid' but they only do this if the house is new or empty for some time. I didn't pay for the power to be connected. With the phone you usually have to pay a new connection fee. i think mine with vodafone was $50

If you stay with the same provider they may not charge you. Shouldnt cost anything, you should be able to just call the power company and they will take your details, and the phone is pretty much the same. We have moved a few times now, never cost a cent.

Water will stay in the landlords name and they will give you the bill every 3 months to pay.
