DD was born on the Sunday of labour weekend (quite appropriate really!), so DH just had the Monday public holiday off and back to work the next day. There was nothing he could do for me anyway, I preffered him to be earning us money as we own an extremely demanding company. With DD DH had two weeks off but ended up being slightly longer as he had to go inot work a few days of that.

DH took one week off work which was fine I then had my mum come around for a week and then my MIL for another week so I had 3 weeks help in the end and was fine when they finally left me to it!!

DS1, DH took a couple of days while I was in labour/on bed rest and then 2 weeks off after DS came home from hospital at 10 days old.

DS2 he saved up nearly all his leave last year so that he could use it after DS2 was born (or earlier if I ended up on bed rest again). He had 2 weeks off after DS arrived mid October, mostly to look after DS1 TBH, and then I'm pretty sure he hasn't worked a 5 day week between then and now. DH had a month off with our first, second time round he had only 2 days off So it was hit the ground running, luckily our 2nd bubba is such a relaxed baby, very cruisy. DH is a dairy farmer too so didnt take time off but would pop in as much as he could during the day. This time it will be the sameish as we're a worker down so there will be less 'popping in'. Two weeks, I think? But he spent most of the time sleeping while I spent all day on the couch by myself constantly feeding the baby (and going mad from lack of sleep). I was not impressed.

I had my mother too, she brought food around every night, then we moved in with my parents, so the help is ongoing (thankfully!).

after DS1 was born he took 6 weeks off i had a c section. After Ds2 was born he took 7 weeks off as it was over christmas so had all the stats off as well.

dp had a week off when baby was born his work was flexiable but i didnt want him home for too long as i wanted to get used to it without him iykwim then has it happens he had 3 days off when she was 3weeks old .. and then again when she was 8weeks old he had a week off on acc then 2 weeks off when she was 3.5month 4 xmas etc so ive been super lucky having him around etc he is amzaing too and now understands why somedays i haven't cooked tea yet and that i was infact right ths baby hardly sleeps during the day!!

next time round i think hell again have a 1 week when babys born and maybe another week at about 6 weeks .... hes really enjoyed being home and watching her at different stages!

I had my DH for 2 weeks, and my mum for 2 weeks.

DH had about 5 weeks off as his work closed down over xmas so he just took a few extra days in between the planned two weeks and the holidays. It worked out really well for us, especially since I'd had a c-section.

DH took 4 weeks off, just cos his work closed down over christmas and much of January, so there was little point being at work when everyone else was on leave anyway. In retrospect, it would have been better for him to go back after a 3 weeks or so, and kept the rest of his leave for later, because DD had awful reflux and then ear troubles, and it would have been really nice to have him take a week off when I was exhausted from not sleeping in months, rather than at the beginning when I was relatively fresh. DS1 was 2 days including the birth day, he went back to work as soon as we left the hospital.

18months later... DS2 no time off, went back to work the day after he was born (he was born at 10.30pm the night before), also worked most the day the day of my labour!.

I had no other help although I think someone gave us a couple of meals that was it.

My DH had two weeks. I had our bub on a Friday so he didn't go to work that day, then I was in hospital over the weekend, he picked us up on the Monday and had two full weeks (his work didn't seem to count the Friday I was in labour so he got that for free!)

he took around 4 weeks off after botth children were born.

with #2 he was going to take from the 7/12 off but he decided to change it to the 30/11 and well what do you know #2 arrived on the 30/11

and he did actually help out was great especially when #2 came along as he would keep #1 entertaiend and I could sleep when baby slept

Only 1 or 2 days, but in saying this he works part time mostly nights, and we live with his parents. My MIL was pretty awesome and helpful, I didn't have to do anything really for the first week. B's dad took time off from the day i went into labour til several weeks later... but thats because he got stress fractures running down the stairs at Waikato Hospital trying to get to theatre in time for DS to be pulled out (crash c-section 3 days after labour started) so his 'time off' had nothing to do with looking after me while I recovered from a traumatic labour and delivery!

DP took 2 and a bit weeks off, elective c-section meant he was able to schedule the time off, but the hospital bumped me from Wednesday to Thursday, so we got a day to just chill before our lives changed drastically! His work set it up so that the first week was sick leave for a dependant (seeing as I was in hospital, and someone had to do school pick-up/drop-off for B) and the remaining 8 working days as holiday pay. I imagine he will do the same again this time... I honestly dont think he would have gone back any sooner had I managed a VBAC, he WANTED to have that time to get to know his first baby (much to his fathers horror! Ex took a few days off when I first had the girls (had them on Wednesday morning, he went back to work the following Monday) and then a week off when we came home from the hospital (we were in hospital for 4.5 weeks). we had it so dh's time off didnt start til we came home from hospital. DH had a day off immediately after the birth (while I was still in hospital) but after that, went straight back to work.
Hes a dairy farmer though and as it was the quiet time of year, he didnt have to do a whole lot on the farm. My husband didn't have any time off work. He didn't even bring us home from hospital, my mum took a day off work, drove 1.5hrs to Auckland and picked us up and brought us home.

He's no longer my husband

Oh thats cool my partner seems to think hes only having a day or 2 off, which to be honest I think is bull crap!!! I told him he is having at least a week off. 4 weeks - I found by the 3rd week I wanted him to go back to work so that I could start trying to do it on my own! Was so great to have the help though.

None, but DH is self employed and would just go to work, do what had to be done and come home again.

DH was off for a week, and then I was on my own. That was fine by me, although I'd have been more than happy for him to have longer off if he'd been able to.

Two weeks here, his work let him take off from the time I went into labour which was great, however I had to spend the first week in hospital so that was a bit frustrating that I only had week with him and DS before he went back to work. 1 week but my mum also took a week off and they both helped to look after me but my mum mainly cooked and cleaned so we could enjoy Lily, more so DP because he studied all of last year and the day his course started was the day DD was due but she came a week early (lucky for him!)

Two and a half weeks. He was only allowed two weeks but his work was really good about it and said he could start his leave from the day i went into labour instead of trying to figure out dates. about 11 days (7 work days and the weekends)

i was in hospital for 6 days (thursday to wednesday) then he had thurs, fri, sat, sun extra off.


next baby i will want him off for a extra few days to help out, but depends on if i manage to have a VBAC or if i have another CS. but his boss is pretty good about it and told him to take what time he needed. but DP is our only income and the business closes down at christmas time, he needs a certain amount of holidays kept for the end of the year.

My DP only had 1 week off.

DD was overdue and born during his Xmas time off so he had already had nearly 2 weeks off before she was born.

Amazingly i had no issues with him going back to work and coped fine. after i had ds1 he had a few weeks off work(though i actually got a little sick of him being around all the time lol)

after ds2 he didnt have anytime off work, my mum, sil and dh juggled ds1 while is was in hospital so he didnt have too. he had a week off after we got home.

after ds3 he had a week off then had another 2wks off when he was 8wks coz ds2 broke his leg.
ds4 he had a week off.
