There was nothing he could do for me anyway, I preffered him to be earning us money as we own an extremely demanding company.  He just came home at about 3pm each day for a week or so.]]>

He had 2 weeks off after DS arrived mid October, mostly to look after DS1 TBH, and then I'm pretty sure he hasn't worked a 5 day week between then and now.  This will be his first full week back at work <img border="0" src="https://www.ohbaby.co.nz/forum/smileys/smiley3.gif" border="0">]]>

This time it will be the sameish as we're a worker down so there will be less 'popping in'.  I'd really love him to be able to take time off though, i found it really helpful to have someone else around ]]>

But he spent most of the time sleeping while I spent all day on the couch by myself constantly feeding the baby (and going mad from lack of sleep). I was not impressed.<br /><br />I had my mother too, she brought food around every night, then we moved in with my parents, so the help is ongoing (thankfully!).<br />]]>

It worked out really well for us, especially since I'd had a c-section.<br /><br />I think this time he'll only be able to take a couple of weeks.]]>

In retrospect, it would have been better for him to go back after a 3 weeks or so, and kept the rest of his leave for later, because DD had awful reflux and then ear troubles, and it would have been really nice to have him take a week off when I was exhausted from not sleeping in months, rather than at the beginning when I was relatively fresh. DS2 no time off, went back to work the day after he was born (he was born at 10.30pm the night before), also worked most the day the day of my labour!. <br /><br />I had no other help although I think someone gave us a couple of meals that was it.  <br /><br />It's amazing what you can cope with without to much long term damage!!!  <img border="0" src="https://www.ohbaby.co.nz/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif" border="0"> ]]>

I had our bub on a Friday so he didn't go to work that day, then I was in hospital over the weekend, he picked us up on the Monday and had two full weeks (his work didn't seem to count the Friday I was in labour so he got that for free!)<br /><br />He's already pencilled in two weeks for this time too, hopefully I can swing it so I give birth on a Friday again <img border="0" src="https://www.ohbaby.co.nz/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif" border="0"> ]]>

My MIL was pretty awesome and helpful, I didn't have to do anything really for the first week. So for us DP would leave to go to work and FIL then MIL would come home from work, so I'm almost never alone and had lots of hands to give a screaming (or quiet) baby to.]]>

    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="https://www.ohbaby.co.nz/forum/member_profile.asp?PF=19501">Babykatnz</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 37296<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 03 January 2011 at 12:35am<br /><br />B's dad took time off from the day i went into labour til several weeks later... but thats because he got stress fractures running down the stairs at Waikato Hospital trying to get to theatre in time for DS to be pulled out (crash c-section 3 days after labour started) so his 'time off' had nothing to do with looking after me while I recovered from a traumatic labour and delivery! <img border="0" src="https://www.ohbaby.co.nz/forum/smileys/smiley26.gif" border="0"><br /><br />DP took 2 and a bit weeks off, elective c-section meant he was able to schedule the time off, but the hospital bumped me from Wednesday to Thursday, so we got a day to just chill before our lives changed drastically! His work set it up so that the first week was sick leave for a dependant (seeing as I was in hospital, and someone had to do school pick-up/drop-off for B) and the remaining 8 working days as holiday pay. I imagine he will do the same again this time... I honestly dont think he would have gone back any sooner had I managed a VBAC, he WANTED to have that time to get to know his first baby (much to his fathers horror! In HIS day he just carried on working, he wasnt even home when any of his kids were born!)]]>

I was fine by then (I had a CS) but couldn't drive, which I found was the only frustrating thing, because after being in hospital for so long, all I wanted to do was get out of the house LOL]]>

So it was pretty much a few months of him being home for most of the day - it was awesome. ]]>
