Dh has just been to see the MIL....and if it weren't for the TM email, I would have gotten away without her knowing.
Apparently she did see it on the news (as it was on channel one as well) but thought nothing of it.
She has seen the auction and shown it to someone at work who commented "that person obviously hates their MIL". So now she (still) thinks I hate her.

my DH yet again got me car speakers which he knew i would be pissed about and they will be getting returned, it was actually embarrassing to open coz I knew what it would be b4 i opened it and was avoiding it the best i could. he also bought himself car speakers. be current speakers work just fine.

Wow, yes, some people need a hobby! I don't personally sell things on or re-gift them. But I'm a fairly staunch believer that if someone wants to it's all fine! I think it's a right laugh. Seriously, if you're going to give someone something as... um... suited to a specific taste as that, you've got to realise you're taking a chance they won't like it. If it was a present I'd given, I wouldn't care less

Ignore the comments, and I hope you get top dollar

(I think he's kind of cute... but I don't think I'd want to own him either!)

ETA that at least you worded the auction in a nice way, you didn't bad-mouth the MIL or anything!

My bet is she will mind. But we haven't spoken for two years because of a major falling out. My MIL hates my guts already so I guess if she does find out it's not going to change anything. But yes unexpected publicity far out. It's everywhere!.....So much for trying to get rid of it relatively quietly. I loved everythig I got this year! DH and I got a BBQ table from my mum and dad and a $50 voucher for Mite10 from SIL so we got an umbrella for it, stoked!!!!

except! MIL made us some dish cloths...she knitted them lol, DH was NOT impressed lol i think they are kinda cool lol

SIL got me a $2 shop looking cat calender last year and a glittery lip gloss - you know, the cheap, pink, barbie type stuff for little girls to play with...

Wouldnt have been so bad if we didnt spend about $50 on her and $20 on her fiance.
This year, what do you know - another glittery lip gloss!

Really dont know why she bothers but oh well.....

With our first valentines day my Dh put crysanthamums in a heart shape hanging from the ceiling above the bed. (all class I know) He put a photo of us in the centre with a happy valentines hand made sign. I was 19 and in love and thought it was great. He took a photo of it he was so proud bless him. Anyway that was the night the BCP failed and our first was conceived. For her 2nd birthday I ran out of film (yes it was that long ago before digital) and grabbed a roll of film from the drawer. It was the same used film that he had taken the photo of the heart on and when developed we had a shadowy pic of our daughter with the heart around her on the night she was conceived. A bit spooky but sentimental as well.

Needless to say not much goes into valentines day now as we don't need another little oppsie now that our family is complete lol.

ETA sorry about the valentines theme but since it was mentioned earlier I thought I would share. Now off to get the icing recipe for the christmas cake.

DH's aunt used to always get him random presents. One year he got a jar of pickled garlic (or maybe curried or preserved I'm not sure). It wasn't home made or anything either - if it was then it would have been weird but nice that it was made from her

When DH and I had been together 6 mths he was so cute and decked out the room with flowers and balloons and chocolate, it was so sweet. 2 weeks later it was valentines day and he ran out of ideas so got me nothing. hahaha. I'd thought I'd got a real winner with that first effort, but never had anything like it since

haha BL, DP got paid last night, so he went rushing around all the electronic stores at 10pm (harvey norman, Warehouse, jb hi-fi) looking for what he was going to get me... only now, because he left it til the last minute, hes decided its from everyone so he doesnt have to come up with 2 more ideas from the kids... I feel like taking his tin of M&M's from B, and his CD from Jae, and passing them on to someone else now haha!

He hasnt even bothered getting anything for his own family... but thats fair enough, the only ones that do bother getting us or the kids anything dont have anything to do with us all year... and after how I tried to be nice and personally give them something for xmas last year and pretty much had it thrown back in my face, I'm not bothering with his family either! I remembered my first valentines with DH...I bought him cute bee holding a heart & little balloons with chocolates in a plastic see trough container, cooked him a really nice meal...we have dinner & bubbles & I give him his gift & he says to me his dad told him to not bother with valentines gifts & pick some flowers from a garden if necessary...typical Dutch...bet my MIL would of slapped him had she of known ha ha...& lets just say that's all he got

one yr my dh got me car stereo speakers(just as well he got me some other stuff.) what annoyed me is that he paid cash at the warehouse for them when he can get the on his account through work. ohwell yrs later and they still work.

most of the time i buy what i want wrap it and give it back to myself

this yr i dont think im getting anything as i got too carried away making sure we ( more like I) got everyone else something that i forgot to leave $$$ for my own present. I know what I want to and hopefully boxing day it will be cheaper.

Oh that's mean! My Gran did that to my brother and I when we were younger.

My kids Grandma (the MIL) has started doing it already too. She bought Joy a lovely expensive teepee tent and a gorgeous hooded towel...Austin got a dog that sings Shania Twain's "I'll get you good" - cool present but not really appropriate for an 8 month old...The ears go up and down and he thinks it's funny but the song freaks him out! Poor bubba. DH has been told to have a word with her...that won't go down well

I can not think of any really bad ones...yet...but DH had gone out to get him something & bought me something also & told me to hold out my hands & close my eyes...I was so excited thinking it would be something sparkly form a jewellery shop & then feeling this heavy big thing that turned out to be a newly released Harry Potter book[:s] still have not finished reading it & DS1 was a baby then. There is a present for me under the tree from my aunties cat...yes, her CAT. I am incredibly curious as to what taste in gifts the cat has, and will report back tomorrow

My mom got me a STUNNING dress last year, its gorgeous and looks like it was expensive to boot and its always been just a little bit too small so i've never worn it and she occasionally brings it up like "you never wore that nice dress i got you...didnt you like it?" and i don't want to say "i love it, its freaking gorgeous but i'm just too fat!" so its become this guilty concience sitting in the back of my mind when i eat...its doing my head in! She actually suggested i wear it for this xmas the other day, it didnt fit me not pregnant its not going to fit me now!

My grandmother bought me a single duvet set while I was engaged to B's dad... no kids, or plans to have any at that stage... so why a SINGLE would be of any use to a couple I have no idea!

With my DH its not a case of the worst present, as i am very lucky but there is just no thought put into it.

Every year I get jewellery or perfume. After reading the above posts I know I should feel lucky but I would love for DH to walk into stevens or living and giving or some boutique store and choose something that he really thinks I would love. Or think about it for more than 5 mins. Gosh I sound ungrateful but after 15 years of the same thing there is just no surprise factor. lol. Ah yes, DH is like that MrsH.

Wasn't christmas either but DH calls me up and says "I broght you a present today" and I was all excited, got home and he'd brought......

A spear gun...... for catching ME fish he said

Edited to add that DH's Nana is bad for presents, once we got a plastic angel for the garden thats meant to spout water I think, anyway it was so hideous that DH's mum took it away from us she was so embarrassed lol! Nana also gave us a re-gifted paper towel and glad wrap despenser (a plastic one) it had so much dust etc in the box, that was for an engagement pressie lol.

The worst present I got was actually for Valentines Day. I came home with a token box of heart shaped chocolates. DH was already home and had been shopping......

.....past the florist.....
.....past the book shop.....
.....past the candy shop.....
.....past ALL the Valentine advertising......

.....and straight to Bond and Bond where he would buy the new Playstation 2.

When I excitedly gave him his box of choccies and announced "Happy Valentines Day!" he looked very awkward, waited for a few seconds, brightened up suddenly and then unconvincingly gestured to the PS2 and said "Look, I got you a Playstation 2!!"

He did make a full recovery and can now walk unaided.

DP always has a few, socks and undies from anyone is just so disappointing for him! If it's from me he 'doesn't mind' - go figure!

Well christmas technically isn't even here yet but already I can start this thread:

1 x teddy bear dressed up like Elvis (apparently "very expensive") wrapped in pink paper (I hate pink).

From the MIL.

This is right up there with last year's worst present - wrinkle cream from my own mother (I'm only 32!)

Not that I'm not grateful to have been thought of but seriously, what were they thinking?
