Lol I was looking up cloth nappies and stumbled upon this lovely site

I remember sex ed at highschool was pretty basic. we watched a video (must have been from the early-mid 90s), got told about STIs and learned how to put condoms on and about the other forms of contraception, but not a lot was really said about pregnancy apart from if you have unprotected sex it can happen.
Or maybe I just didnt pay much attention lol. My mum had already taught me ALL about sex ed well before the highschool classes. My highschool was VERY discriptive!! We watched a BIRTH video in 5th form FIFTH form lol we learnt all about pregnancy symptoms/prevention/where to go to get help/your options ... we learnt about STIs and their long term effects.We were taught how to put a condom on. We learnt about ALL the protections etc. I felt very informed and that I knew exactly what do to weather I got UTD then or years down the track like I did.

I completely disagree with this! I am a health teacher in a secondary school and our health classes are much more in depth than that. We look at relationships, sex, contraception...without having a child at high school or even intermediate its hard to comment as things have changed hugely. I think it crazy how comman it is for people to steal identitys on other sites. Like that big American site who's name I won't mention. Ever member has a page kind of like a facebook page where they all post pics of their kids for the world to see. Then crazy people come along steal their pics then post in forums pretending some one else kids are theirs. I have no idea why they do it. Seems really pathetic. Quite often they lie about their kids dying for attention or pretend to be pregnant. One lady recently had been pretending to be pregnant and was looking for someone to adopt her baby. She went as far as meeting one couple multiple times then did a disapearing act Aparently she's done it to a few couples.

I agree the Mods and admin on OB do an amazing job of keeping this place drama & spam free.

I think also because it's a site aimed at kiwis there's not as much to monitor as there would be on a large American site (won't name names lol) I can think of one American site in particular which is HUGE but filled with nothing but drama. Good for a laugh now and then I must admit. Occasionally I find OB a little too safe when it comes to discussions. Not that that's a bad thing I just like a good heated debate every so often. Still this is my fav parenting forum by far. We had the awkward split into boys and girls groups and go to seperate halls thing. Mostly it was about your period and tampons/pads. And it was cringe-worthy.
I don't remember being taught about sex at all, just got the misinformation from my friends and from magazines like girlfriend and dolly!

Anyway, question answered i think - now i know there are a whole bunch of folk out there somewhere watching us

We had a general assembly (I can't remember what year it was in) where they had a couple of trained sex ed educators in to do a session.

I've always thought that thought I'm not a fan of them in general (I don't like the body image issues I think they give young people), the teenage girly magazines often give pretty good sex advice.

But yeah, I agree with the whole 'maturity' feel to this site. I think a lot of young girls, because face it a lot of us on here are women, think I've only ever seen 2 men post!, feel like maybe they wouldn't fit in or simply may not care enough to ask.

DD isn't my first pregnancy and I know that first one I never jumped online or anything, so 2nd time round with DD I jumped straight on the net to get what info I could and that's when OB popped up, but I was 7/8weeks UTD and I didn't actually post for a couple of months, just lurked.

I guess maybe the moderators could delete those types of posts, but I wouldn't see the point in them doing so if we could help educate some people... If that makes sense.

as lame as it sounds thats how i came to be on OB.

i was so confused as to what was up with my cycle and wasnt TTC including 1x + test but then lots of neg tests and came here to see if anyone could help me figure it out.

turns out i was preg and blood tests confirmed it (and the wonderful guys in TTC suggested i go for bloods)
and were supportive when i ended up m/c.

I think a lot of spam/advertising posts get reported to admin and deleted. I know when i have reported these types of posts in the TTC thread, as i HATE them and its really sad people are trying to prey on us that would do anything to have a baby, admin normally delete them in a couple of hours.

Good question. I think it might be more of the whole feel of OB as to who might feel more comfortable posting here. Most people seem to be more mature so they could feel strange posting those silly things here and probably different search terms in search engines

That's a good question, maybe because ohbaby isn't a super popular site that comes up easily in searches?

Sorry, that was me trying to edit my first post to make more sense and then the computer crashing on me and it was like midnight and i really couldnt face trying to start it back up, connect back to the net etc and thought i'd get back here before anyone else noticed to be confused!!

Basically i said that i was lurking around on a few other boards and they seem to be inundated with

a) Spam
b) Trolls
and
c) numerous "hi, i'm 16 i had sex last week and my boyf didnt pull out and now i feel sick do you think i'm pregnant" type of posts

And i was wondering why i havent seen any here at all - do we have super moderators that delete them as fast as they appear?

well im young (22 now, 20 when i found out) and i guess we are more likely to look for groups/friends in the due in threads - spesh if it was a surprise.

also, if i got pregnant again now, i would be posting in general with excited 'omg im pregnant' news, but if i didnt know anyone or how people reacted with age and marital status, i would be more inclined to ease into it.
