I think it's a great idea I wonder if my antenatal instructor does that, she would have been awesome. I didn't have one - I knew about them, but couldn't really justify the expense, especially when I didn't feel like I particulary 'needed' the extra support. We have an article on doulas coming up in Issue 12 of OHbaby! Magazine (onsale 20 December) that should help answer a lot of your questions. I had a doula at my daughter's birth and she was brilliant -- I'd definitely do it again.

There was a thread not so long ago in the pregnancy forum (when i make this post i'll go find it for you) that was all about it, i think everyone said it was awesome and would do it if they could afford it. I am going to antenatal. Our antenatal teacher is also a doula. I am thinkign that I probably wont have one as it is going to be too many people (6 with a doula) in my lounge. I did and she was AWESOME! She came to the house and really helped out, especially when DH took DS1 his grandparents.

We talked about what I wanted her role to be and I truly wouldnt have another birth without her!

Did you go to antenatal? Or are you I should say... most child birth educators will be birth support (thats who I used) and are much cheaper than a doula. I had a great mw so I didnt need post natal care.
