Just thought I'd add my 2c about the sitting on knee bit!

Still feel a bit out of the loop, but by the unassisted development part, that's pretty much what I am doing with Lily, I just let her do things at her own pace.

Depending on when I start Lily on solids will determine how I feed her in terms of that, if she is sitting or not.

Just googled & I have sorta heard of it. Least the part where you don't sit a child until they can sit themselves. My cousin's wife did it & IMO it was weird but I never saw it in action.

I find it a complete pain to feed on my knee, if I feed anywhere other than a high chair he gets up & runs off. I find that for dinner if we all eat together he usually eats more, finger foods anyway.

I certainly don't let him play around with his food & see that when I let him sit on his little armchair he's in control of the situation. I am exceedingly aware if he doesn't like what I give him & definitely do not force him to eat things that will upset him but also with weight issues I find that I need him contained in one spot so it's easier on me to get it in.

But then I guess that is the point it's letting the child have control of what happens????

Do you feed them at the table with you while you're eating your dinner or do you feed baby before or after your dinner?
