This freaked me out, I had actually been aiming for the 12kg mark since that's what you read everywhere.

Wasn't doing anything radical to lose weight just cutting out the bad stuff & trying to keep reasonably active.

GP told me to keep doing what I've been doing for last 6 months and not worry about it. He told me to stay away from the scale as weight gain or loss isn't important and monitoring it will just make me worry more. He said if I'm hungry I should eat, but make it a good choice and keep the cupboards clear of junk; and that if I eat properly and healthily I probably won't lose any weight for the first 5 months but I likely won't gain any either.

I haven't got bad MS so if I was throwing up every day and turned off by food it would probably be a different story. I do have very sore knees/legs/hips tho - I find taking the dog for a 15 min walk makes them feel better although it's hard to motivate myself past the soreness sometimes.

The weight gained is because you lose approx 500 calories everytime you breast feed.. so the body needs stores. Its not necessary (for the baby) when you are pregnant
to eat anymore - as long as you are eating nutritionally etc. the baby will take everything that it needs. I have been lucky- had virtually no cravings and believe its posisble to find healthy alternatives. Just think- any weight you put on you will just have to lose when bubs is born! You also want to avoid getting gestational diabetes etc.
Good luck!

I know I'm a big person, I've had to suck it up during this PG, I'm even having an extra 3 scans because I'm "high risk" being overweight.

Just making sure that it's okay!
According to the weight gain calc (don't know how accurate it is) I should be 7kg heavier than what I was after the 1st trimester (so 3kg more than now), or if you look at my pre-preg weight I should be 7.5kg heavier = 7.5kg heavier than I am now.

My MW is happy with my progress and isn't concerned about my weight gain so far, so I should just trust her I suppose!

I've got my GTT next week and a scan the week after to make sure my weight isn't effecting baby's growth, so once I get those out of the way I'm hoping I'll relax a bit more

Edited by AngieBaby

I lost 3kg in the first tri from morning sickness and I didn't get above my pregnancy weight until about 4-5 months. And I put on most of my weight in the 8th and 9th month, more the 8th. (I'm not large but just thought I would post my 2c about not gaining until late).

Also I've read about a kg a month is good amount to put on. Under weight can put on more than this and over weight (that seems like a horrible term to me) can put on less). Baby will get everything they need from you so try not to worry that much about it.

Which I thought was totally unrealistic!
When I asked my MW about it, she said that between 7kg-10kg was ideal for a healthy PG.
So far I lost just over 4kg in the 1st trimester, since then I've put on 3.7kg, so still thoeritically I'm around the same weight I was before PG.
I'm not dieting in any way, in fact I've completely relaxed my weird eating habits... I even drink orange juice now that I never used to because of calories!

How is the weight gain going for other "big" ladies.
Should I be concerned that I pretty much haven't put on any weight at 26 weeks? Or should I just be content that I haven't put on the 25-30kg that friends of mine have?!
