I printed off a good article which lists the differences between real contractions and braxton hicks, so every time I start to get a bit worried I refer back to it.

The Bounty book they give you is a bit naff really as it doesn't mention braxton hicks until much later, but i read on the net it is very common to have them from quite an early stage and they become more noticeable from 20 weeks onwards.

I do think this being my second pregnancy is making everything different - I have felt the baby movements very strongly this time, and am definitely getting a lot more aches and pains ie stabbing pains in my side, round ligament pain, back ache, leg ache....it goes on!

Kazzam

None of the sites on braxton hicks mention that.

There is no pattern to them, they only last a few seconds, and they don't increase in intensity, and there are no other symptoms to imply it is real labour. As mentioned before, this has been going on for several weeks so if it was labour it would surely have happened by now.

Am just concerned about why I am getting such intense braxton hicks at such an early stage(23 weeks). It is a week until I see my OB. I e-mailed him a few weeks ago to try and describe it, but he said it sounds like a normal pregnancy and I am probably just feeling the babies movements more uncomfortable than I did in my first pregnancy.

feel like I'm going to drive myself mad.

Kazzam

This is my 2nd pregnancy so apparently it is common to feel them sooner. I didn't feel them at all in my first pregnancy because of where my placenta was I think, or perhaps because my stomach muscles were more in control.

In my case it feels like my stomach goes hard and it is a feeling of pressure rather than pain. But I can feel the pressure on my back at the same time. It only lasts for a few seconds, and then stops.

I am going to ask my OB about them when I go. I was worried, but they have been happening once or twice a day for several weeks and nothing else has happened so am assuming they must be BHs.

Kazzam
