This all extends my feeding/changing routine by another half hour, I feel I never get chance to just hold her, my pump sounds like a deisal generator so can't combine cuddles at the same time. This morning in a fit of tiredness I stuffed the bottle brush too far up the breast sheild when I was cleaning it, and cracked it so now I am trying to find another one I can use before my boobs explode. Paranoid that now my volumes have increased that I will lose it again with not expressing for a couple of feeds. I am trying to patch mum and dad in with a pharmacy in Wellington so that they can pick it up for me with their Xmas shopping but they keep getting lost down Cuba St
How are you today? anymore BH? I must ry to remeber that this is the pregnancy page and not hog it with my comments about babies, but none of my "friends" are on the baby page yet, might just wait for you and Cherie to catch me up

    Author: busymum
Subject: 3356
Posted: 22 December 2006 at 12:59pm

Awww Claire the first month is the hardest. I once wanted to know where on earth my day was going to (this was when I had two kiddies but they weren't newborn) so I made a time sheet lol and 1/3rd of the day was feeding/arranging meals, another 1/3rd was cuddling and reading books and stuff, and all the rest of my day like tidying or having time to myself was crammed into the last 1/3rd.

The first month is feeding, changing, getting used to being a mum, and resting - because it's sooo tiring! Not to mention that you're on call 24/7 But in a couple more weeks it'll be getting a lot easier. Her feeding times will be quicker, she'll start smiling at you and she'll want little times of just being on the floor/in the bouncinette too. With a bit of organisation you'll be able to take her to coffee with you and even feed discreetly enough for cafes and she'll settle into a routine as well.

That's so cool of your parents to be glad to help out with the housework! DH and I were talking last night and we have decided that we will get our lawns and some housework done for us. Having three kids this close together is hard work and I'd much rather look after kids and do regular chores than do mopping and toilet scrubbing and vacuuming! DH is a Postie so he does physical work 6 days a week, he wants his Sundays off not doing lawns which totally makes sense!

Wow this is getting rambly, I think I'll sign off now

Friday I had really bad pains that came every five minutes. I hoped into the bath at 11am (texting Stacey the whole time, she distracted me which was good)and they still weren't going away. Sent a txt to DH who came home straight away and then helped me out of the bath and I rang my MW. She thought I may have the bug that is going around but still was concerned with the pattern. Did the usual checks and an internal just to check my cervix. Lucky for me the cervix was still closed, but she mentioned something about it being in a ripe position??? If the pain got worse and closer together then to go to the hospital. I was sent home to "rest", I hate resting when I have things to do. Lucky I had finished my assignment and all it needed was for me to take it to Massey which DH did for me. I came home after dropping stuff to the lab and then spent the afternoon going from my bed to the computer to the chair changing the channel on the tv and getting bored. The pain has stopped for now which is good as this baby ain't coming out till after xmas (and I say so).

It took Neil and I nearly 10 years to move in together cos it was too soon and too big a step, and because I was travelling in Asia for 2 years of that on my own.
Thanks for the advice re TENS, I am hoping to get one through the physio deps here at the hospital but other than that I will track down at a pharmacy locally.
Bingo seems to be in relativly the same position she was in at my scan at 22 weeks, her body has moved more to the left side, but other wise she is head down and bum up. So kinda pleased about that despite my groans about being shoved in the ribs all the time

Edited by Redbedrock

M/W thinks its is just trapped pockets of air and the sensation is like a whooppeee cushion. As for my rash, she thinks it's just hormonal, it doesn't fit the history of the more worrying pregnancy itches but she will refer me to the Obs reg if it still worrying me. so it's just plenty of aloe vera for me and try and keep my nails short so I don't scratch too badly
I am going to look into a TENS machine for the early part of labour too, my friend in the UK swore by hers for the first 48 hours of labour, (then she yelled for an epi and CS). But i like the idea of going in stages, and moving up as I need to, my midwife seems pretty straight up and I will trust her advice as to how we are doing. I don't think it's the pain I am worried about, it seems as if there is a pay off to it and I know at some point it's going to stop, I think it is the thought of things not progressing in the way I hope they will and having to get more and more intervention so that I lose control of the situation. But I know we get the labour and birth that is meant to be and at the end of the day I want Bingo to be born safely and with minimal risk so that's the pay off with what I want and what will be I guess.
Scary grown up stuff but in just over a month I get to meet this person face to face and I can't wait
I think for me I just have a rough idea of if it hurts too much, go in the shower. if that hurts too much, try gas... stages like that. I'm hoping to do mine without an epidural this time as I felt last time I lost some control with the pushing (couldn't feel what I was supposed to be doing). But it was kinda nice having the epidural for the first birth and being able to get a feel for how the flow goes without too much pain... we shall see.

Sorry the worst dental experience I've had is a "surface" filling with no anaesthesia. It doesn't compare at all! The thing with labour pains is that they build up over time and that's what helps us feel "in control". I'm afraid my pain tolerance is only moderate and I am definitely one to panic when heavy pain comes on I think the biggest thing I need to remember is to keep DH informed of where I'm at and what I need.

He already remembers my pointers from post-birth last time: Don't say "don't give up" say "keep on going" etc... anyway it wasn't really like I could give up lol

Headaches are better, still really tired. Could easily be a growth spurt as well as low immune system at the moment, so I'm just trying to take things easy. So far the rest of the family hasn't caught anything, I hope it stays that way.

How are your eyes, conjunctivitis is very contagious so be careful with the girls getting it.
Neil and I went through our birth plan in preparation for my m/w appointment later today, I'm all sort of "go with the flow" as I don't know what it will be like, I think I have a fairly high pain threshold and I am not prone to panicky or out of control, but I think the worse thing that has ever happened to me is having a tooth out, does it compare at all? But no, Neil is planning it like a military operation, how long should the pain be unbearable before he requests an epidural (he??????). and his list to take with him is longer than mine and the babies!!!
I have this ugly itchy rash all over my legs, up to about mid thigh, but the rest of my skin is starting to itch too at the moment, I have gone through everything, we don't have visitors (of the insect kind), it's not chicken pox or anything like that, I haven't changed washing powders or soaps of anything. It's driving me crazy especially at night, when my legs get warm under the duvet they itch and itch and itch. As I said seeing M/W later today and my homeopath tomorrow, so hopefully they will have some answers

I am finally over my cold only to have developed conjunctivitis (there is another thread on that). Fortunately its just a nuisance nothing particularly bad about it.

Saw my m/w again today. I'm still on fortnightly visits but I think we'll do a couple of 10-day visits over Christmas/New Year and weekly after that (since I'm due 2 weeks after you Cherie). But we have started talking birth plan and things suddenly feel like wow, I'm having a baby - silly as it sounds!

Cherie don't worry about stretch marks too much they will eventually fade and not be noticeable, but that will be after baby is born. I didn't realise where you lived until now, we three are rather spread out!

Claire yes you are starting to sound hippy but only in fun My m/w thought Baby is not quite in the right place today but she seems to be moving towards the right place, so that is still good news. I think I'm just glad she's not breech like #2 nearly was - she was flipping breech to down to breech to down every visit, a bit tense at that time.

I keep reminding him there are 2 of us on my side.
I can well reccommend the osteopath, but it seems to have been the best money i have spent through my whole pregnancy. I have slept so well and my aches and pains in my hips are much better. Bingo seems to have moved, as well, so I don't have all that pressure in my ribs and side. May be a coincidence, but I am hooked. I am going back at 36-37 weeks to have my pelvis aligned for the birth. I might be turning hippy in my old age, what with homeopaths, for my hayfever, and osteopaths.
Hope you are feeling good Teresa and this is the start of a good week for us all

Claire

I told him I felt very sorry for his wife cos he is never at home. I don't know how he had the patience with me. I lost it at him. Told him it was his fault I got sick and his fault that the baby wasn't coming out and if he didn't induce me I was walking out of the hospital and didn't care what happened to the baby. He calmed me down and went over the induction and told me that it was very busy in the delivery suite and would have to wait my turn. I then said to him so if I go into labour they are going to turn me away. He saw the funny side of that and then the next day I was induced (BP got far too high 165/102 and my fingers were jammed together it was horrible) and then had Andrew at 1am the next morning.

So if I have to be induced 2 weeks early then that will make it the end of Jan. When I spoke with my MW yesterday we spoke about my headaches and she wants me to keep an eye on them and go in and see her on Monday, i'll have a BP check and a pee test just to see how things are going. At my last check the pee test showed up the slightest amount of protein in my pee (not even enough to be classed as a + but it was still there). Not enough to be concerned with at this stage, but she is keeping a check on it.

OMG my parents have their 25th wedding aniversary on Monday.
