How rude of Plunket to tell you off for demand feeding a 3 month old! You can not over feed an exclusively breastfed baby.
Jody was the same, started solids at 5.5 months, then at around 7 she was getting hungry more often. I added an afternoon snack, and then a morning snack soon afterwards. As long as you offer milk first until she is 8 months old then she won't overfeed. ( I was still offering boob before breakfast until about 10 months).
Sounds like you are doing really well, you want to trust your instincts but are scared of the dreaded Plunket Nurse . You know your baby better than Plunket, nod and smile at your next appointment

    Author: Samandtia
Subject: 32755
Posted: 10 April 2010 at 11:05am

Hi There! New to this posting thing so here goes...

Isabella has been on solids since she was 5 1/2 months, she is now just on 7 (Where has the time gone !?) Anyway... she has been on 3 "solid" meals for a while now and has somehow (!?) dropped her last nap after we turned the clocks back. My question is... after her lunchtime nap she will wake around 2.00-3.00 then I breastfeed her and then give her another breastfeed around 5ish then her dinner about half an hour later.. Do I give her something to eat between her 3.00 and 5.00 breastfeed or is that too many "meals"? (She is also on 5 breastfeeds a day...morning, lunch, afternoon, dinner and dreamfeed) What if I just give her something like yoghurt or custard? She wants to eat when I am eating and I am a continuous snacker throughout the day. So I feel bad when she sees me eating so I give her a little taste and she wants to gobble it up. Plunket told me to not worry if she doesn't want 3 meals yet.. but in her case she wants 4!? I don't want to be told off again for feeding her "too much" I got told off at her 3 month visit because I was still on demand feeding every 2 to 2 1/2 hours throughout the day.

Any suggestions/thoughts about what other mums are doing would be REALLY appreciated! Thanks Heaps!
