I used a birthing pool during my labor with my second child. Found it incredibly useful, can't imagine having gone without it. Hiya

I had a homewaterbirth in Jan. I ended up buying a pool from payless plastics on recommendation form a lady from The Homebirth Association. it cost us $60 and is only about 100mm wider than the actual birth pools.
I think the pool was used for about 5-6 hours. We emptied the hot water cylinder twice and had pots boiling, but we have a gas cooktop, our power bill was about $30 up.

Soemone else in another thread suggested hiring commercial size hot water urns ? The Wellington Homebirth Association hire out birthing pools - check out their website.

Another option is to buy your own birthing pool, which you can keep and use when the kids get a bit older.  Eg the H2OhBaby! pool costs around $250, including delivery, and comes with everything you need.

probably not quite $100, but perhaps would have been if we'd had to keep it warm longer. I ended up needing to go to hospital - which wasn't actually that bad, although my labour had pretty much stalled and I was exhausted by then so was only awake during contractions. We used the pool for about 6 hours, so if everything went smoothly you'd probably have the baby by then.

We emptied the hot water cylinder, as well as running 3 kettles and 2 big pots continually boiling water. Thanks ladies. Once at hospital I will be on monitors and a bed hence my desire to stay at home for as long as poss. MW supports me not sure my ob will but I may not tell her my intention.

Previous C section due to eclampsia is why hospital want full monitoring. Of course if things are turing pear shape I will go straight to hosp but if all is ok then I want to use the birth pool.

Hmm...... how much of a dent in the poswer bill was it? Like over $100?

that is the only thing putting me off hippymama.... getting out to go to the hospital.. though not sure I would get dressed as such... a dressing gown would suffice!

Yup I hired mine from Aquabub, but as Kelly has put it I never ended up using it - DD2 had other ideas and was born a bit quicker than we were expecting (planned homebirth).

The lady that ran our antenatal classes hired one out. It was $80 including $50 bond, from memory, so $30 hireage.

I ended up using our MW's one which she didn't charge for, but we were planning a home birth so not sure if she'd have lent it if we weren't staying home.

It did put a bit of a dent in our power bill though

Just wondering if any ladies out there have done this? I will be having a hospital birth but want to labour at home as long as I can. I love water so am thinking of hiring a birthing pool so I can labour in comfort at home before going to hospital when absolutly neccessary.
Does anyone know hire costs too? I have emailed one company but got no reply.
