Hi Zaylah,

I just read about your latest update and I'm sorry to hear about posible TTTS. It's no easy journey I'm sorry. I did find it a bit easier to know it wasn't anything I had done to cause TTTS and what will be will be (easier said than done I know).

I found the worse thing was to read up about TTTS because you seldom hear the good stories like Bex & I who both had it and have beautiful healthy boys and there are actually alot of good stories out there. I tried my hardest not to become emotionally attached to them before I got to 26weeks (viable outside woom) but again it's easier said than done - for me at least it heped not to buy any baby gear until they were viable so not to get my hopes up.

I lived for my scan/specialist visits and had a list of Q's for every visit which I'd recommend as it's easy to forget when you get there. AND you'd be amazed at how their fluid levels can change so dramatically. I had a scan at 21 weeks (from memory) where they were looking dire and they gave the boys the weekend to sort themselves out (what a LONG weekend that was) otherwise I would be going to Sydney for the laser and amazingly on the following scan they were 'fine'/ well within safe limits so I didn't have to go to Sydney.

I'll be crossing all my fingers and toes for you and will be following you on your blog - it's bringing back alot of memeories for me. Please also get some professional councelor advice or PM me and we can chat too if you're finding it hard. talking to someone who's been there helps alot - I left it till 30odd weeks to call a TTTS support person and wish I had done it sooner.

I don't know what to say Zaylah except I am hoping for the best possible out come for you and your family. I believe it's best to try to remain a positive as possible. For those that have read the blog, you'll know what's happened today at the hospital etc. I really don't know how to handle it all. Ricky is being awesome of course, but at the same time he just doesn't get some of the things I feel.

We have been told that they don't know what causes it or how to 'fix' it, and as far as research goes, they saysthere is nothing you can do to prevent it from happening. So logic says it's not our fault - and I know that. But gosh I feel so horrible and guilty!!!! I keep thinking if I can't even protect them now, how will I protect my children later on?

I was just saying the other day how I felt like they were all safe in there, how wrong was i?!?! And I do know how lucky we are, firstly that we are able to conceive, then that one of the babies seems to be ok, and thirdly that there is a chance that all three will be ok. It's really hard to focus on that right now though! I knew I had a strong connection and feeling of love towards my little ones, but I really don't think I realised just how much.

There's another whole two weeks until our next appointment, but I really don't know why I am holding out until it comes because it sounds like we will just be playing a waiting game until either they die or get really sick. I feel like I need a heap of information, and the internet is useless! What I can find I just don't understand, and I can't seem to search for too long at the moment without getting really upset. Bet the hormones aren't helping either! I keep thinking I can write a whole heap of questions down to ask when I next go to doctor (and have been told I can page him anytime also with questions so could do that if I start really going out of my mind) - but I really don't know what I even want to ask.

As much as my mind knows that there is nothing we can do and nothing we did that caused this - my heart is telling me the complete opposite and Ricky is finding it hard as he keeps explaining this to me, and as much as I 'know' it, it's like I don't believe it. I feel for him! He is not one to discuss stuff, so he'll be bottling this up. I'm trying to get him to be open with me, but I'm sure he's so scared of upsetting me even more - even though I've told him it would probably be better for BOTH of us for him to talk.

It was easier earlier today, as I hadn't taken anything but it sure felt like I had. Had such a floaty, sleepy, surreal feeling. We were able to cuddle up and have a sleep for a while which was really good. Unfortunately the 'natural drug' has pretty much worn off now so am going to try distract myself with desperate housewives, a nice herbal tea, and lots of comfy pillows.

Sorry I'm honestly not writing this to get a whole heap of sympathy - and to be honest don't want it so please don't post it! If you use google, when you find her page, which is here near the top on the left hand side are a yellow/gold star and next to it a star with a green + in front of it. If you click on the one with the green + and then click on ok it will save the page to your favourites. To find it the next time you come onto the internet, click on the yellow star and a list of all your favourite sites will appear, then you just click on the one you want and it will take you to the page.

What is wrong with your MW???? Who calls at 9.45pm for a start, that is just bad manners and to discuss selective termination of healthy babies, wrong on sooooooooooooo many levels - can you contact your local multiple birth club and see if you can get some recommendations of a new MW. I can understand she might be overwhelmed / nervous but rude and insensitve are personality flaws IMO.

I would personally find another mw and put in a complaint like someone else said is there one in your area that has had experience with multiples?

As for the "specialist" i would be complaining about that too how dear he suggest that when he hasnt even met you and not even direct to you.

I'm with the others complelty inappropriate conv to have over the phone. I would ring my midwife and tell her how upset you were about the conversation and how you though it was inapprotriate she may not have thought aboout it that way. If you can ask to see a different specialist if not i would confornt him at that appointmet and find out firstly if that was what he said of a case of chinese whispers and then find out the reasoning behind it.

You really don't need this added stress in your life.

As for the specialist I think he probably wasn't expecting your mw to ring you and relay their converesation but even with that said I would be absolutely livid if it were me.

The pool is great while you are preggers. I would be investing in togs that fit as you grow because it will be a great way to get some wieght off your back for a bit and give your body a good rest.
I just brought togs of a bigger size rather than going for maternity togs. Oh I didn't realise you could blog on OhBaby! My poor brother went to the trouble of setting up a blog for me last night - so I better use his one since he went to so much trouble!

I'm pretty busy today but will hopefully get it up tomorrow!
I really don't know how interesting I am going to be to stalk - there's not a lot to say!

Will be popping along to Touchwood today. Then I'm hoping to go to the pool (is it normal to LOVE swimming while pregnant? I just adore being in the water at the moment!) I'm trying to go to the pool as much as I can because it won't belong before I can't fit my togs!
Then we have a family dinner - where we will be telling family about the triplets. So that should be fun. Gaudjen - Will definitely search up the facebook group early next week (we need to tell Ricky's extended family about the triplets before we can put it on facebook - there is a dinner this saturday so will tell them then).

Sally - I was starting to get over the MS until we found out about triplets, the last few days have been the worst I have ever had it. So not sure if it gets worse with stress? I have been a heap better today though and kept down lots of food and water! Hopefully I am getting over it for good now. Although I heard that it's common for mums with twins/triplets to get it longer! The biggest thing I'm worried about with that other than them not getting enough nutirents is that I'm STILL losing weight. I've lost just over 5kg now, yet my tummy is HUGE (haha I say that now, it will only get bigger!).

Kiwikid - I personally don't know Sheryll, will have to ask Mum later. I'm assuming Sheryll works at Bookems? I think that is the only other scrapbooking shop up in Tauranga at the moment. Although there might be another one in the Mount, I'm not sure.

Kahlia - I LOVE the shop! lol. I go up to Tauranga to see the shop almost as much to visit Mum! And being her daughter, I quite often get her to get stuff in for me (and that's usually Kaiser - I LOVE kaiser!!!!).

I was looking for the scans before and when I couldn't find them I text Ricky to find out where they were. He took them into work AGAIN. Congrats on the amazing news!! I couldn't imagine what triplets would be like!! hope everything goes smoothly for you!!

Just thought I'd let you know that there's a Facebook group started by a woman who has actually just delivered her triplets and it was set up for support etc if you're interested?

Alright here we go. This is what has happened so far:


16th December – First Nana Nap
I started to get really tired over the last couple of days and today I just had to have a nap! I’d had a couple of symptoms such as this, implantation bleeding and a few minor cramps which are all pregnancy signs, but since it was our first month trying, I thought it was all in my head!

17th December – BFP
I shouldn’t have tested this early, but I convinced Ricky that if I did the test and it was negative, then I’d stop having this silly feeling that I was ‘up the duff’. Well Ricky waited outside the toilet while I went and did the pee on a stick thing, and I could see the lightest faintest line ever that I wasn’t sure if my eyes were playing tricks on me. I muttered ‘oh sh*t’ under my breath, when Ricky asked what I said ‘oh nothing...’ About a minute later, there was no doubt that it was a line. Ricky was not prepared for that at all! However I was over the moon and was on the phone to Mum in no time!

22nd December – How Embarrassing!
I think it was this date that I went to the mall and decided to have a glass of juice at the foodcourt. I ended up falling asleep and some lovely lady woke me up! First time I’ve fallen asleep in public (well apart from when I was very little I suppose). How embarrassing!

23rd December – Morning Sickness Starts
I started to get mild morning sickness today. It wouldn’t be until later on that I realised just mild it was!

2nd January – Projectile Vomit!
I don’t think I’ll ever forget this day! I had been feeling quite nauseous and vomited a little in the previous 48 hours. Ricky, my brother Al, and I were sitting out on the deck at the table in sun and I was trying to get some fresh air. I was trying to nibble on some marmite toast. Al was sitting across from me, and about 30 seconds after he stood up – I did an amazing projectile vomit all over where he had been sitting! Oh if only it was 30 seconds earlier, and I could have had my revenge for all the years of being the picked on little sister!

4th February – Midwife
I had my first midwives appointment today. It was mostly just taking medical history so there was nothing that interesting to report. She did feel my abdomen and said she couldn’t feel anything. I’m now wondering if maybe she just didn’t feel it right? As I had been feeling it for a while! She would know more than me though.

15th February – Uh oh... what do you mean there is three in there!?
We had our first ultrasound today. We were both so excited to see the babies! I was slightly worried something was wrong as I had been having quite bad cramps, but I also was still having bad morning sickness so I was hoping that meant things were ok. When the radiologist brought the pictures up on the screen, I did see that there was two ‘sacks’ and 3 blobby round things. Twins crossed my mind, thinking one baby was showing us topview (the one blob was it’s head) and one was side on (so the two blobs were head and tummy). But I also knew that I didn’t know what I was looking at and it could have been bladder or any other crazy thing.
She confirmed that this was our first ultrasound, and then asked if we were ready. My mind was racing ‘oh my, it’s twins isn’t it!’ However she then said “it’s triplets!” We were in absolute shock! She talked to us calmly for a couple of minutes while our minds tried to take in what was said, and then she zoomed in so we could see the babies individually (and they no longer looked like little blobs!).
It was absolutely amazing to see the little ones, wriggling around and waving. Hearing their heartbeats was surreal! I don’t think I enjoyed it as much as I would have liked as I was so shocked, but have since found out we will get extra scans due to there being three of them, so can’t wait until the next scan!
Afterwards I rung Mum from the car and asked if she was sitting down. She replied ‘oh no, it’s triplets isn’t it!’ as a joke. When I said yes she didn’t believe me. It wasn’t until she spoke to Ricky that she started to realise we were telling the truth!
We then went around to see Ricky’s parents. His Dad was home, but we had to wait 2 hours before his Mum came back! It was so hard to keep quiet for that long! We showed them a picture of one of the babies, and then showed them one of the three blobs (see Gallery for images). After squinting and looking sideways for a second, Ricky’s Dad said ‘is it twins?’ and Ricky said ‘plus one’. His Dad just shook his head, and his Mum couldn’t stop grinning for the next hour!
By the time I got home and rung Mum again, I found out she had already rung a few of the aunties and her friends to tell them. I have heard that in the days following she told not only everyone she knew, but also strangers who walked into the shop (she owns a cardmaking / scrapbooking shop in Tauranga). Poor customers!
