When I found out I was pregnant (was almost at the end of 1st trimester) I set a goal of saving extra amount each week and putting away and I also had about a month of leave owing as well so that helped. Also I brought extra at the supermarket when I could (and things where on special) like toothpaste, soap powder and the likes and put away so it wasn't too hard on the grocery bill when bubs come along.

Just a side note, the 52 weeks includes the 14 paid weeks, its not additional.

You can either get PPL or Parental tax credit (lump sum) you do not get both. To get PPL you must have been working for at least 6 months in your job to qualify for the 14 weeks. If you have worked for 12 months then you can get the 14 weeks plus up to 52 weeks unpaid leave. The Parental tax credit is mostly claimed by SAHM who are having their 2nd, 3rd etc children, as on PPL at the full amount after tax its around about $6000 or so. I'm freaking out about budgeting for baby.

Our company (not sure if others are the same) make you take all your annual leave owing to you, I've worked out that I will have 5-6 weeks owing, then 14 weeks PPL.

I'm planning on heading back to work after 6 months, not because I want to but because we have too many bills owing, plus we've nearly saved enough for a house deposit.

So we're going to be down to 1 income for 1.5-2 months, scary to think.

Although I am grateful we do get something nowadays, even if it is only $355!

I got the full amount and in the hand it was about $337 I think a fortnight. It depends on how much your normal pay is, if you normally earn under the maximum amount then that is all you will get, and if you normally earn over then be prepared to have less money coming in.
