Both of our babies have gone into their own roooms fairly early on (2 weeks old), the monitor means I'm not gettting up to check on bubs all the time which I think I would otherwise do!

Ours is an older model with only one sensor pad which meant when bubs started rolling and moving around the cot it would sometimes go off when she moved away from the pad, so we switched to the sound only function at that point. Don't think the newer models have this problem. With regards to the fan in the room, we found that the movement monitor still worked if you pointed the fan away from the cot so that the breeze wasn't going directly over the cot.

You do have to test it though - I discovered that using a fan in the room interferes with it. Without baby in the bassinet it still thinks there is movement cause of the tiny vibrations caused by the fan (perhaps going through the floor?)

We never had any false alarms, except when I forgot to turn it off - I discovered that 15 seconds is just long enough to sit down and latch baby and then the alarm starts squealing at you .

I used the Respisense portable ones with the gremlins, and with lil miss when she was in a hammock till 4 mths, and they were awesome too. Mercedes had two apnoeas (that couldn't have been predicted as she was a good birthweight and only a few days prem) and the alarm alerted us both times.

Would be without it now! Having said that, it can be a PITA when it comes to turning it off. You have to remember to turn the parent one off as well otherwise you get static and thats not good at 2am lol... Whoops did that a few times, poor DH. And if you forget to turn the baby one off it will alert you at the 15 second mark then alarm at the 20 second mark.

But like I say we love ours. It has alarmed a few times and put me into panic stations but I'd rather that than worry and need to always check on him.

My specialist said they wouldn't let me go home without one if they thought i needed one so I didn't.

In saying that I think it has it's place when recommended by a specialist (of course) or whether you're more on the paranoid side. If you're going to be a mum who needs to check that they are still breathing every hour then definately get it so you can get some proper sleep and not worry.

Sorry, I didn't really help but there are deffinately pro's & con's to it.

So no real experience but as long as you follow SIDS guidelines then I'd hope you'd be fine without.
