Good luck ladies. We did IVF late last year and am glad to say it was succesful. We tired for 3 years with no results, went through all the tests, nothing found so did 4 rounds of IUI with no success and then moved on to IVF. First round successful, baby on the way. We were one of those negligent Midwife stories. Nearly lost our boy. Went through a long process in hospital to get us both home as we both ended up very very sick. I'm not sure how I feel about not having another, and flatly refuse to believe it's not possible. We're at the 3yr mark for public funding, but that's just to put us on the list, so we're paying for this ourselves. It feels like a dentist bill...lol...it has to be done but it's got its own pain... but I'm desperate for another baby...just one...and I am exhausted realising this has been such a long journey. My hubby has two children prior to ours, and he doesn't get to see them sadly, despite us wanting them part of the family, so like you there's so much history and wanting with having one more baby... xxxx   Hubby wants to try two natural cycles - we're in the first one now - I just want to get on with it....so we might not be too far behind you if I get my way :) I'm also older.... 38 now, so know time is ticking, but specialist has already said there's no issue with egg quantity/age side...obviously with some less than perfect quality in there - but wasn't something he's overly worried about....

Hey miss b - good to hear about your plan - sorry to hear your tubes are too block. It is great having a plan though

We have been ttc for over 4 years now, through all the tests, scans, HSG, lap they have found nothing other than maybe pcos. Tried 7 months straight with clomid and 2 iuis in there too then a break til lap, then one more try at clomid. It was nice having the break, on the pill now and due to start buserelinon the 11th

I have a dd who is now a teenager, i had her when i was very young and she was very sick and only got to come home just before she was a year. so want a family with DH and to bring a baby home

Really hoping ivf works as I don't know how I will get over having more kids if not. Icecream we're about to start too. Hi, thanks for asking.

Well I'm one of those stories that used to annoy me. As I patiently waited for my period, after 4 days late (not unusual) I did a home pregnancy test and turns out I'm pregnant. So after 22 months trying, and just about to start IVF we were really really lucky. I'm about 6 weeks now I think, seems to be going ok so far.

Looking forward to seeing a few more announcments on this forum.

How exciting for you, best of luck next month.

I am starting my first IVF treatment shortly, hopefully start shots this weekend.

I'm 31 and have PCOS apparently (cysts), although ovulate regularly and have no other symptoms - other than infertility for two years!! I also have a nearly 8 year old - who was conceived first month of trying! Frustrating

So I'm pretty excited, pretty nervous - all those things I'm sure you're feeling too. Awesome to hear it worked first time for you - very encouraging.

Hi ladies,
Bit of an intro- finally ready TTC#2. History of PCOS with 3 years TTC before our precious angel came along via IVF. We did 1 year of by ourselves and then naturopathy, then Clomiphene and finally IVF. Was not ovulating so this was the best option for us although we paid privately for the treatment.
Hugely surprised to get a BPF after one cycle (12 eggs retrieved, 5 fertilised and 4 blasts). Every day I am thankful for her and know how hard it was and is to get pregnant.
So, many years later after fairly horrific post-natal depression we are finally ready to try for another.
First FET is scheduled for mid March, so looking forward to sharing the journey with you all.

I'm 27 and hubby is 28. We did a full cycle of IVF but couldn't do a fresh transfer as my progesterone level was too high. The Dr wanted to wait 3 months to let my my body settle down before trying a FET. They have had really good results from doing this so fingers crossed! I had 15 follicles and 12 had eggs in them, 7 fertilised and only 2 made it to blastocyst on day 5 so those both went into the freezer!! Hopefully they are 2 little babies for us!!!!!! I think it costs $1800 for a FET but yeah full $10k for IVF cycle. I'm not sure if we have to pay $1800 on top of the $10k given we didn't actually get to do an embryo transfer??? Sorry Naki just replied to your other post but this post you have written has answered my questions. Do you mind me asking how old you are? For us hubby is also all fine, great results and we have conceived before (our son) so it appears we were compatible enough so i know its just me who is the problem now. Totally sucks! I was wondering with the FET what is the cost compared to doing a full IVF cycle ie. egg collection etc? That really sux to not have a reason, must be frustrating. I'm the polar opposite and have known since I was 15 that I may have trouble conceiving due to Endometriosis. Didn't really phase me at that age as I figured once I reached an age when I wanted children surely technology would make it possible. I have had 2 laparoscopic surgeries and have been TTC since December 2009. We then went straight to IVF in June this year and still on that train hoping for success from FET early next year. My tubes are blocked which they established from my last laparoscopy by doing a dye test, right is fully blocked and left partially blocked. Hormones, ovulation etc. all perfectly normal but my AMH is 7.9 which is below borderline for my age. Hubby is perfectly normal. If IVF doesn't work for us we will look into tubal surgery to perhaps unblock them. You would think they would be able to find a reason... Mumma2be yes it's hard esp when you think it's all going to happen straight away like last time. We have lots of tests nothing found which is also hard. Hopefully this round is successful, feeling a little nervous about doing first jab tomorrow!
I found iui harder in some ways compared to ivf. We were successful on our number 4 and 5 iui but miscarried so it does work!

Tpm78 thanks for your reply. Our first was a little surprise, a one off whoopsie, we assumed #2 may take a few months but its been nearly 2 years. They have found nothing on tests which is hindering our fertility so we do our first iui this cycle but I can just tell the ivf talk is drawing closer. Hi liangel I have had one unsuccessful cycle of ivf. I was really worried about injections I bought cream to numb area and it irks. I got a nurse friend to help with first injection took over an hour and lots of tears and ended with " is that it!" the next day it took about 15 mins for me to do and after that no probs!

So far we are just waiting for AF then start taking Oestradiol tablets 3 times a day. I'm doing a manufactured cycle as my AF is all over the place. If I get my AF before 29th Nov then they can so a FET before Xmas. I'm under DR Lakshmi Ravikanti she seems nice from the meeting I had with her. Will keep you posted Naki.

This morning I had my day 2 bloodtest to get things started for a frozen embryo replacement. We moved from Wellington where we did the EC etc and we moved to Tauranga last year so replacement will be done in Hamilton. So new doc and nursing team.

Hi lilangel & oneday. Just to reiterate what others have said - the injections are absolutely painless. and I had no side effects whatsoever, just a little tenderness as the eggs developed in the few days before EC.
I've had one EC and remember almost nothing, just one moment of discomfort. I also didn't really have any discomfort afterwards (though I took panadol for a few hours).

Ditto to the above lilangel... I haven't made it to the egg collection stage yet but yeah the injections were not as bad as I thought they would be. I practised at the clinic and also watched a video on you tube of a girl showing how she does hers and that eased my nerves as she made it look so easy! Look up IVF injections on you tube and I'm sure it will pop up. With the drugs I found I got a bit forgetful and was a bit moodier than usual but overall felt fine most of the time. Hi lilangel, quick reply to your questions! The injections don't really hurt, like a small pinprick, the first is hard but it's really just in your head. Lots of people get their partner to do it for them, or the clinic gets you to do a practice one. Everyone is different with their reaction to the drugs, I was just really tired, mood swings not bad, in fact overall IVF easier all round than I had imagined. EC was fine, I can't remember a thing, apparently I was snoring! Hi there,

this is my first time posting so please bear with me if I sound a bit "thick" or not up with it!

We are going to be going through IVF soon. have basically been told within the next six months.

i'm really nervous and even though i watched the DVD fertility associates gave us, i feel unprepared and not really sure what I have myself in for!

We have been trying for 2 years and we know that the reason we can't get UTD is sperm issues. the good news is there are some there, and the better news is I have come back all clear - although currently undergoing bloods to check my cycle as not too sure if i'm ovulating properly. i don't expect much to come of this since i'm pretty sure i got my period math all wrong! (funny the things you learn after two years!)

i guess my immediate questions are... how bad do the injections hurt?? are the mood swings tolarable?

Egg collection - what do you actually feel?

in the lead up do you stop alcohol like right now 9even though you have no idea of the date you will be starting - some lovely people have said if its a special occasion don't stress it will be fine, but it seems there are alot of special occasions coming up and i don't want to do anything that could stop us from falling pregnant!

anyways just thought I would introduce myself, and hope that I can be some support to people as well, its a lonely thing really, people don't talk about it much, so it will be nice to have a place to come :)

No but I have a friend who has Naki. She had fluid in her tubes, and they operated on that. She chose that because if they fixed it there was a good chance it would be fixed for good and she might be able to have more than one baby without more treatment. Hi!

My hubby and I started our IVF journey this year. I have endometriosis which has resulted in my right tube being blocked and the left partially blocked. I also have a borderline AMH level of 7.9 which means I have less good quality eggs remaining in my ovaries than normally expected for my age. I am 27 and we have had no luck conceiving naturally over the last 3 years.

Our first cycle I was injecting Buserilin daily to down regulate. Unfortunately I had a follicle left over inside and this then turned into a functioning cyst. My estrogen level was measuring over 2000 when it should have been less than 100 at the time of my blood test! I had two trigger injections of Ovidrel over the space of a week to get rid of the cyst while still taking Buserilin but it just kept getting bigger and my estrogen level kept rising. The Dr made the call to postpone the cycle until the cyst has gone.

I will have a scan on Day 1 of my next cycle and (fingers crossed) if the cyst has gone we are going to start an antagonist cycle using Gonal F on Day 2 of the cycle and then start with Cetrotide on Day 6 to prevent any eggs from releasing prematurely. I understand an antagonist cycle is a lot quicker but I am worried as I have a borderline AMH level that I may not get many eggs or any good quality ones.

Does anyone find themselves in a similar situation or have any success with an antagonist cycle with low AMH level? Also interested in anyone that had a postponed or cancelled cycle due to a cyst as I was told this is quite uncommon. The Dr was perplexed with my reaction to Buserilin as my body seemed to react the opposite way to what it was supposed to. If the cyst does not go away naturally within 3 cycles I will have surgery to remove it and if surgery is required the Dr said it would be a good opportunity to possibly unblock my tubes to try and conceive naturally. Has anyone had tubal surgery?

Hi Debandtodd, I've been through EC twice and like you was very nervous about it. well, sh*tscared to be precise.
The first time I was extremely panicky and it seemed to take ages to get the cannula in and the drugs pumping (and the wait before going in was excruciating, every time I heard footsteps outside in the corridor I lost my sh*t. It was a horrible experience (to the point of the drugs hitting my bloodstream anyway) although everyone in the theatre was really nice about it (I probably should clarify that this was completely my reaction and not a result of anything the clinic or procedure did). DP hated seeing me like that, made him feel very powerless, so this time I gave him some little things to make sure happened so he had some 'involvement'.
This time round was completely different. Wanting to avoid the same scenario (and I wonder if there was anything noted down on my panicky response from last EC which helped with this) I asked our FS before this cycle about whether I could have oral sedation (the same stuff they give intravenously) before this retrieval. He agreed and it was written into the plan I think. It did mean getting to the clinic 90 minutes before the retrieval was due to start, as they need you to be lucid to sign things on that day. I only had one pill, and got a bit woozy after about 15 minutes (empty stomach) and it was fine, I was even laughing with DP beforehand. I remember being a bit apprehensive before going into theatre but the drugs mess with your memory a bit, and it was a LOT easier this time.
They sit you on a big recliner chair like in the dentists, legs in stirrups (take warm socks) and some people apparently do feel the needle going in (I don't remember last time, but I remember it on one side from the first time). Everything is pretty numb, but if you do feel anything, you can have more IV goodness. You can watch the screen to see whats happening (if you want), and its usually all over in about 15 minutes, although its hard to get a sense of time.

Then you can go through to the recovery room area and doze in another recliner - this is usually the point your man goes off to do his bit - and you get tea and biscuits (or toast in AKL, not sure what ChCh bring you) brought to you. I think once you've been to the toilet, you're ok to go home. And agree with the panadol- just keep taking it every 4 hours certainly for the first day.

Hope this helps - its a horrible thing to anticipate it and even other people's accounts don't always match your own experiences. I'm happy to answer any questions (although might be better to PM as I don't check in here that often, but PM will email my usual email address I think) Either way, good luck with your cycle, its unpleasant but bearable (and hopefully worth it!)

I had EC early July this year. I can hardly remember a thing from it. They give you some very nice drugs indeed! I do remember the start of the collection, and kind of like snap shots of part way through, but no recollection of being wheeled into recovery at all. I had a big snooze in recovery and then a bite to eat after waking. I had zero pain through the procedure, but absolutely second the comment about keeping on top of panadol afterwards. Take it on time even if you're not in pain at the time, as it has a cumulative effect.

Debandtodd, I've been through egg collection once, and I am doing it again in a few days. The unknown is always a little frightening, and I'm sure your heart will be racing when you go in, as mine did. The good news is that it's not that bad. The drugs they give you are good. The drugs will calm you right down and will reduce any pain to a level that is usually just uncomfortable. I was eating a doughnut about an hour after the procedure.

You will be fine. Remember to keep on top of your panadol afterwards. Hi Ladies, This is my first time on here I have gone through many pages looking for stories about experiences with ER under consious sedation. Unfortunitley I haven't seen anyone talk about it.
I am in the Canterbury area going through FA in Christchurch in about a weeks time I start my meds for the flare cycle. This is my first time doing IVF and I'm very anxious about ER. I was wondering if anyone could please put some light on the subject for me as I have read some horror stories elsewhere. We are busy at the moment with spring and calving, he just loves been out on the farm helping me feed the calves.

Just popping in to update those of you lovely people who are checking up on me

Unfortunately our last cycle resulted in only 1 viable embryo which was transferred on Day 2. Our BT was yesterday and it was negative.

5 cycles, 10 embryo's over 8 transfers, thousands of dollars later we have had 8 BFN's.

Our journey is now over. My life long dream of becoming a Mumma will not be. Time for me to set some new dreams and move forward.

We've battled for 3 1/2 years and whilst I don't want to accept it's over, in some ways it is almost like a weight is off my shoulders now all the anxiety and stress about TTC is over.

Hi everyone,

I am seeking out information on IVF and possibly hearing stories from other egg donors. I'm a 26 year old mother of a 7 year old and I have been asked to donate an egg to a long time friend who has exhausted all other means of conceiving. Wow...I havent been in here for ages. Our little boy is 9 months now and we are about to go on the waiting list for number two.

Cream - We have MFI, and went private to get our little boy last year. I did not qualify for public funding due to my weight. But I have lost 30kgs and now qualify and having our boy doesnt affect our ability to go on the list now. Well I would love to chat to more that are going through what I am. So undecided on what to do.
I have had 2 IVF cycles and both turned to BNF's
So do I try again or do I look down donor egg.I have public funding for either choices and I feel I want to start again soon as I have rested for over year and nothing has happened naturally either :(

thats hard ah. I M/C at 12 weeks and was just devastated, like everyone that goes through this.....It was probably one of the hardest things..Was that the first cycle you had a pregnancy with Guest? We also do ICIS, seems the only way for us...and am now on a private cycle, watching every penny at the mo, I am sure you know what thats like too...
Sounds like we will be starting at the same time...

we did a private cycle in-between the public ones...The wait just seemed so long for us and you will be like the rest of us in terms of just wanting to get on with it and move forward..The waiting is very very hard...

Hi there, have posted a question on another thread but just found this one and thought may be more people here who might be able to help.

We are waiting to go on the public waiting list for Hamilton next month, has anyone gone on that list recently and if so how long was your wait? If it's over a year wait then we're thinking we'll have a shot at private then do public later but if you are successful with your private round does that mean you won't qualify for public down the track? I've read all the online info I can find but I still can't quite figure it out.

We have severe MFI so IVF with ICSI will be our only chance but would like to make the most of the public chances mixed with some private because presuming it could take a few shots at it if it will work at all.

I've read lots of successes on here which make me hopeful and read of lot's of woman who don't give up even after three or four times which I find very inspiring. Hi Paris, I am 43 and recently had a m/c after 9week scan showed no heartbeat. We did IVF with ICSI for the BFP. We have just agreed with FA to do our 2nd IVF (we have had to pay as don't quality for any subsidies). Just found out today we start again after my next AF.

Hi everyone,
I've also been reading the forum for the past couple of weeks. It's an amazing support during a time that certainly feels like a bit of an emotional rollercoaster. So thanks!

A little bit about me: we are part-way through our first IVF cycle, after TTC 2 years. We have a male fertility issue, so our cycle involved ICSI.

We started off with 14 eggs collected, 8 fertilised. And then a rapid drop to 3, then 2, then one viable, which was sad and shocking! I had in my mind that we'd put one back and freeze 'the rest' - how wrong I was! So much for two bites at the same cherry (we paid for this cycle).

On Monday we had our one embryo placed back, so currently on 2ww. Fingers crossed.....

I'd love to also join the FB group - assume that I need to PM someone?

Welcome! I don't visit this site very often as I'm trying not to get too baby-making obsessed But thought I'd say Hi. There's a Facebook page that I think has taken over from this page a bit - I think Tiffany and/or Tischler can hook you up with it (I haven't joined). Anyway, if you read back through the posts here you'll find heaps of info and support. What clinic are you with?

I did IVF & ICSI last April; I'm healthy, just old, and DH has a lowish sperm count following vas reversal. Been ttc about 8 years (DH and I had both been married before, so didn't meet until we were well into our 30s). Anyway, got pg with twins from that one cycle, but mc'd at 7 and 9 weeks. this was followed by the year from hell, with several deaths in our immediate family, so have only just got our heads around the idea of trying again. So currently planning another IVF & ICSI cycle in july, and about to start DHEA. There's also a possibilty that I'll chicken out - last year was so hard and our likelihood of success is almost non-existent. But that's the plan for the moment! We're with Repromed in Akld - they're fantastic.

Hi everyone, I'm brand new here, I've joined the forums so that I can share experiences with IVF, with women who have been there themselves. My hubby and I just got confirmation that we are booked in for our first round of IVF, in March 2012. I feel so grateful to have been given the opportunity (it's govt funded), and feel a mixture of anticipation, excitement and anxiety.

I'm 35yo and have had 2 laparoscopies for endo. In the first lap they found severe endo, and ovarian cysts. 2 years later - after some time trying to conceive, I was sent in for a second. No endo this time (hurray) but a lot of scarring, which meant my organs (including ovaries) were pretty much glued to my abdominal wall. They also confirmed adenomyosis.

We ttc for a bit longer, had 2 possible, albeit it very short pregnancies, but the longer we tried, the worse the adenomyosis and ovarian cysts became - eventually I was bleeding more each cycle than I ever had in my life before. It was debilitating. My moods were also extreme, and all combined it made me a very unhappy camper. I started on the pill again, and happiness returned. At this point I was referred to he Fertility Associates, who after consultation and examination, and review of my surgery notes, advised IVF, and that they wouldn't recommend any other treatment.

So here I am, feeling like I would like to understand some more about what goes on during an IVF cycle, before our time comes in March. I do plan to read through this post, but would love to hear of some of your experiences, if you wish to share them with me! Thank you all so much for sharing all that you have already - for someone like me it is like coming across gold.

Oh sorry it means Pregnant Until Proven Otherwise hehe. I'm sorry to hear your wee emby lost some cells in the thaw. It's not something I had considered would happen. There has been a few successes in the IVF Facebook page with some girls getting 2 cell and 4 cell embies transferred and getting BFPs so don't give up hope. Tiffany, all the best for tomorrow. 12weeks finally, hope your next trimester goes quickly for you. A question though, what does PUPO mean? It will probably be obvious!

Staffy hope all went well on monday and bubs is behaving!

As far as our transfer went our little emby didn'tcope so well with the thaw and lost 50% of its cells. We were both devastated and were not expecting that especially after having 5 other embys thawing perfectly intact. We went ahead with the transfer but have a considerably lower chance of conceiving. We have not given up hope but are also not as excited as we have been in the past.
Anyone know of a 4cell emby developing into a healthy pregnancy and birth? What a bloody rollercoaster this is!

thats great you have a start month now and it isn't too far away. It sounds like you are doing absolutely everything you can for your body healthwise and also for yourself to keep mentally strong. Well done I think it is fantastic that you have covered all your basis with work, naturopath,acupuncture and therapist! You have all the right support and help so your body and mind will be at peak for this cycle. I have a good feeling for you, you will be getting a BFP this cycle!!!

Yay for maybe Tuesday Nigella!

I am scheduled for first week of August as egg collection and am doing a short cycle with testosterone patches, and probably pipelle and intralipid infusion again. Phew!

I'm also seeing an acupuncturist (which I also love), a naturopath, and a psychotherapist (3 years of denying myself grief over this process has taken it's toll). I've also confirmed to have the months of July and August off work to reduce stress!!

It's kitchen sink material for me this time, no stone left unturned! Our 5th cycle will be our last so I don't want to look back and say "I wish we'd ...".

A work course which I've wanted to go on for ages is scheduled for the end of August so it will be a good distraction either way!!

Hi all. Called fert plus on tuesday. Got told the same thing as 2 months ago, which dh and i count as a win as we never seem to hear the same thing twice. We're looking at dec for treatment. Still seems a long way off but at least we should have some action before the end of the year.

Still don't feel like i belong in here yet. Hi ladies, I just had my progesterone BT this morning so waiting to hear from the nurses as to which day will be transfer day. I am picking Tuesday but have the whole week off next week anyway.

I went to an amazing acupuncturist this week who specialises in womans health and fertility. I would definately recommend acupuncture now, I felt amazing after, I have been feeling a little out of control with my body and hormones (from being on and off the meds) and afterwards I felt totally relaxed, calm and a bit more balanced and in control. Have a few more appointments booked but wish I had started treatments a bit earlier, although some is better than none I guess.
I will be thinking of you also Tishler and have everything crossed for you this cycle. Hi girls. Hoping to join you and gain from your experience and wisdom! We have just been told that the only possibility of conception, for our second child, is using IVF with ICSI. A bit of background story, we started TTC #1 in December 2008. I came off the pill and waited, and waited, for AF to return. She never did. After repeat visits to the GP I was finally referred for a scan and discovered that I had atypical PCOS (normal weight, no hormonal levels out of 'normal' ranges, but verrrry polycystic ovaries). In June 09 we had our first appointment with FA and they recommended clomid. So we did round after round of clomid, with increasing doses, without ovulation, or finally ovulating on a massive dose , with the help of ovidrel, but then having an insufficient luteal phase. In April 10 the decision was made to have a lap done, and my ovaries drilled. Post surgery we decided to try one more round of clomid whilst we waited for publicly funded IVF. That round resulted in a miraculous BFP. DD was born in Feb 11. We never went back on birth control, thinking that if a miracle happened and we had a super short age gap - that would be cool with us! But, alas, that didn't happen. In December last year we went back to the doctors for help. I was put on metformin - and, big surprise, started ovulating on my own for the very first time. I still have a rubbish luteal phase though - 7 days max. We started doing clomid rounds, just to ensure the best quality ovulation, with ovidrel and progesterone again. BFNs. So, just to dot our 'i's and cross our 't's, DH did a SA last week. Not a good result at all. We've been told the way forward is ICSI. We have an appointment with our specialist on Friday to discuss everything, and will start as soon as is advised - I'd like to get started next month, but, if the doctor recommends an 'intervention' stage with lifestyle changes (to be honest, there isn't much to change, we have a very clean diet, exercise, don't smoke, not much alcohol - although that could go altogether) then we'll wait until later in the year. Wow thats so exciting for you. Yep bubs will be doing heaps of changing at the moment. Will be interesting to see the difference between the 10 and 12 weeks scan. Thats awesome they are keeping a close eye and is good for you to see the development. Yip I have my 12 week scan booked for the 18th May but have already had 2 scans since my 7 week one. Had one at 9 weeks just to make sure all was ok, and had another one at 10 weeks last week because I had some spotting. Both scans were perfect. It was unbeleivable the difference in the scan at 9 weeks and then again at 10 weeks.
