Just like how sushi (regardless of whether its got meat in it or not) is a no-no because the rice harbours bacteria the same way.

Hope that helps (and btw I ate sushi and hummus while pg - I was rather relaxed this time around)

Just lightly roast the sesame seeds in a dry frypan, don't let them go brown. Then let them cool and process in the food processor with olive oil till you get the right consistency. It stores in an airtight jar in the fridge for up to 3 months. And since you've made it yourself you know what food prep hygiene went into it.

I used to make it and then use it to make hummus and felafels but i can never get my hummus tasting that good so gave up after about a million tries. And got sick of my felafels falling apart so gave up the whole meal altogether but now strangely am getting a bit of a craving!

I bought it up cause I had no idea I wasnt supposed to be eating it and I was shocked and wondered why. I googled it and it did have something to do with the tahini and in the way in which is is prepared. You would think however that brands like Lisas would be safe! I agree now if you have it the day its opened then it will be fine, however, bit of a pain as I was having it daily on sandwiches to tart them up a bit! Not going to be buying a tub of it each blimmen day! Home made is great, if you have a food processor that is!

I eat hummus all the time and have had no problems..

As with everything i just make sure it's freshly opened. Open it and eat the whole thing haha.

Personally i think they go way over the top with those food guidelines. Another thing for mothers to feel guilty about. If you don't get the answers you're looking for here, maybe poke your head in there and ask the question and I'm sure someone will be able to tell you!

Personally I don't see any prob with it as long as I eat it freshly made or freshly opened. I know I def ate it with Bethany cuz being dairy/gluten intolerant myself, it's one of the few 'dips' I can have. Hope that helps?
