That's interesting cos Spencer was a c/s birth cos of being breech, he also had a really flat head because at 35 weeks my waters broke and he ended up being really squished for 3 weeks until he was delivered. cuppatea, I had problems with my growth hormones as a child - between the ages of 2 and 4 I didn't grow at all in height. There were endles trips to the specialist and the pedeatrician, none of whom could figure out the why. The what was my body wasn't producing enough growth hormone, my pituatary gland wasn't functioning properly. I was just little from day 1, and then stopped growing. I started growing again just as suddenly. The only thing that we found later in life (age 12 or 13?)was through seeing an osteopath - the plates of my skull were slightly out of alignment, causing my pituatary gland to be slightly compressed. This was due to a c-section delivery. After visiting the osteopath and him working on my head, I grew an inch in a month, and continued to grow at a more "normal" rate. Anyone? Yourself or child?

Spencer had his tested at 21 months and it was just about ok, Gp at 2 year check asked for me to have him weighed and measured every 3 months to keep an eye on things as at his 2 year one he hadn't grown in height. Well had him weighed and measured today and weight is fine (around 7% on the chart but he was born on the 3% so thats ok) height has yet again not changed and he has now fallen even further off the bottom of the chart. Went to the plunket open clinic and the nurse pulled these expressions she was very understanding when i explained that that's why I was getting him checked (think she thought I was just doing him as I had taken Kyle in, when actually it was the other way around), but she had no advice other than to go back to the doc or the paed (was allergy paed who first raised it as a concern and got the blood tests done at 21 months).

Am going to book him in to see GP again and he is due back to the allergy paed soon as well so will ask him as well but just wanted some info from a non medical person in case we are looking at a hormone problem as i know nothing about it except a vague childhood memory of one of my brothers friends staying over and having to bring a fridge full of drugs with him and him being about 4 foot tall even though he was 15.]]> Thu, 03 Sep 2009 13:53:51 +0000 https://www.ohbaby.co.nz/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=28526&PID=764655&title=growth-hormone-problems#764655
