Author: sweets
Subject: 25003
Posted: 21 March 2012 at 7:29pm

Hello hello everyone - first 2012 post in here!!

I've started hanging around OB again as DP & I want to start trying for #2 later on in the year. You may notice me in that thread complaining about how I need to lose weight haha good place to have a rant. Heres a bit of an update on us.

Mr2 is doing fantastic, currently trying to sit on his little motorbike from McDonalds. He loves swimming, dancing and you won't ever catch him without a car (I'm sure all the boys are like that!). He is talking heaps, being super naughty and cute at the same time. Sleeping is going well for us (finally), we found putting him to bed half an hour later made a huge difference and he hardly ever puts up a fight. We do lots of reading before bed and say goodnight to the entire family.

DP & I are both working full time. Mr2 goes to his grandparents every Monday and then to a really good daycare 4 days a week - he loves it there and we love it too. I worked 20 hours a week for a little while, and may do so again, and found it absolutly brilliant (except for the bank balance :). When number 2 comes along I'm not sure if I will ever return to full time work - at least until Mr2 heads of to school.

We've been doing some work on our house to make it a little more user friendly. Our plan is to rent it out in the next couple of years so we want to make it into a nice attractive rental (hopefully the rowdy neibours have moved out by then!!). All I want is the deck done!!!

I would love to hear how everyone else is going - those of you who have had #2 as well!

Can't wait!

sweets that's been happening to heaps of people with that guest name showing up. I see they still haven't fixed it either. Good to hear things are going well.

Congrats Crazymum. Wow #11!

So quiet in here now. So many people have left OB now. I hang around since i'm in the July 2012 thread now.

Isabella is doing well. Growing well and reaching all of the mile stones. She's quite chatty but is usually really quiet around people she doesn't know. She can be a stroppy little madam too and has an ear piercing scream. She's so cute though and a lot of fun. Her brother is being rather challenging at the moment though and loves to harass her which drives me crazy.

Off to Christmas in the park tomorrow evening. I hope the kids will enjoy it and behave.

I hope everyone else is well.

I'm sure it won't be long till there are a few number 3's coming along in this forum as well.

What has everyone been up to? Guess it must be about time for 2 year updates?!

Tai is doing great. Huge. Were having humoungus sleeping issues - whats new. So any advice there would be great. He's loving daycare - I get a little teary eyed when I see his profile and all the things I'm missing but I love working at the moment and I'm going down to 20 hours in a couple of weeks which will be a good chance to spend some time with him. He's talking heaps, always doing something to surprise us - doing things we didn't even realise he knows how to do!

He's very much a Daddy's boy at the moment, I could try and reason that away to make myself feel better but in the end I think it just swings in roundabouts - Im not taking it to heart. The kid has a lot of love to give, and kisses which I can't get enough of.

As for having another playmate....were still thinking of trying from August next year (which is only 9 months away!!!!!)so I'm excited about that. I'm trying to time it so no#2 comes along at the same time we are relieved of some financial comittments. For now were just focusing on working on our house.

Omg!! Editing to say this is sweets. So much for the pushing staged meaning to be like a first time, this wee man was in a hurry when he decided to come but at least he stayed put so we could watch the RWC AB semi with mild contractions (waters broke on the motorway which was interesting - likely I was sitting on a towel!). We are doing well, he is feeding well and DD loves him so much.

I'm not looking forward to when DH goes back to work next week...eek. Sorry to hear about the cluster feeding I can imagine how hard that is with a toddler.

I think my supply is running low too as he will often just not latch on, especially in the evenings, it's becoming very exhausting. He wakes 3-4 times in the night and after the 2/3am feed he'll wake every hour. So at this stage I'm considering switching to bottle feeding. I have no time for Georgia and it's starting to affect her behaviour when it's just me and her at home. I feel so bad for her, I'm feeding constantly and she just lies on her couch with her bunny making grizzling sounds. It's a hard decision to make, but will see how it goes. Apart from that he's growing real quick and getting loads of smiles. Makes it all worthwhile

So quite bummed as totally over being pregnant now. So uncomfy and awkward, so will be glad when the new bubba finally arrives! I've got an appointment with an OB at the hospital next Wednesday and going to have another s&s with MW that afternoon, but thinking of booking to have a c/s next Friday if possible as don't think I can wait too much longer. Also getting that awful PUPPPS rash again so feeling a wee bit sorry for myself in this late pregnancy stage. What a whinger I am!

Cooper is still up during the night too. Sometimes he'll sleep through but only occassionally and then some nights he'll come in our bed, go straight to sleep and be no problem. Then nights like last night he sounds like Isabella, he was wriggling and kicking and sitting up and saying uh oh (losing his dummy) or saying more more as he wants to hold handfuls of my hair to sleep and crying out and all sorts!

I hope you and your kids get better soon Deb, winter illnesses suck! Cooper hasn't been sick in a bit but the last week or so it seems every 2nd kid has a cold so I'm just waiting for him to start sniffing and coughing again. I saw in another of your posts that you guys are going to try for #3 shortly Deb, yay, that's so exciting! I hope it happens quickly for you :)

She gets out of her cot and comes in to get in our bed then continues to wriggle and kick and smack us in the face all night. She constantly kicks the blankets off too. So annoying! Not sure what's up with her. I have to get her to sleep too instead of just putting her to bed and leaving her like i could before. She used to go to sleep so easily and sleep 12-13 hours every night. I hope she'll start doing that again soon. We had enough dramas with her sleep till she was around 14 months so it's really annoying that's she doing this now. She hardly ever has days sleep now too 'cause it's it's such a drama to get her to sleep.

Well we have a lot going on at the moment. DP got made redundant last week but got a new job yesterday. It's in Auckland and pays a little more than what he's on now. We have less than 3 weeks to pack up and find a new house and everything! Eeek!

I hope everyone's well. We're all sick AGAIN. Ever since Kaelen started kindy we all keep getting sick. We hardly ever used to.

I'm just avoiding it as I don't want to irritate anything. I've picked her up once at night to give her a hug. As long as you have some good family/friend support I wouldn't be worried if you need another CS. Not long for you now!!

I think we're slowly getting over the horrible first couple of weeks. Liam has been feeding non-stop since day one, but has put on about 350grms since birth, so can't complain really. Feeding is going well, exclusively bf'ing during the day and topping up with EBM at night so Mum gets SOME sleep

I think the terrible 2's have started with Georgia, it could just be the change, but the tanties are getting pretty bad She is a great big sister though, points out Liam's hair, hands, eyes, mouth etc etc. Strokes him while I'm feeding him and says 'nice'. The day and night mix up definitely sounds exhausting, I hope it doesn't last much longer. Hopefully Georgia gets used to having a new brother around soon, it's definitely something I'm worried about.

That's great about the c/s recovery too, I'm going to try for a VBAC mainly because Cooper likes to be picked up a lot and I imagine he'll be wanting to be picked up in those early days so that's my main reasoning, but hearing that the recovery isn't too hard with a toddler makes me feel better if things go that way for me again. I start feeling nervous when I hear about all these nasty tears and other issues that people have had and think maybe I'm making a wrong decision as I had a very straight forward recovery from the c/s. But hey, we'll see what happens in 7/8 weeks I guess!

I had a growth scan last week and looks like we're on track for another big baby - was weighing 5lbs at 32 weeks. I've got an appointment with an OB in about a week to get the tick of approval for a VBAC.

Not long to go. Can't wait to hear the news of his arrival. I don't blame you for going for the CS. I had tearing with my son but it was a 2nd degree tear and a large internal tear which both healed well. Yours was a 3rd degree wasn't it? I guess at least with a CS it won't matter what size he is. My son was a decent size.

Wow only 8 weeks to go for you Chelle! Are you having another CS or trying for a VBAC?

So many November mums having another baby! I'm glad it's not me. Hehe. Can't imagine having my two AND a newborn!

Isabella has been a real grump lately and her sleep has been all messed up. The other day i discovered what her problem must be, she got her second lot of lower molars. So she's got 18 teeth now. Have to say i'm getting so sick of her constant tanty's. It gets bloody tiring! Her brother has been driving me mad lately too. The joys of kids.

I'm having a CS on Tuesday!! I elected it due to the tear I had with Georgia and this one was estimated at 8lb1 already at 37 weeks...eek! So as soon as I found that out it pretty much made my mind up. I'm only 38 weeks today, and the only spaces they had available were either Tuesday or the 2nd of August. I originally said the 2nd, but they preferred to get me done next week. So was all a bit of a shock considering I thought I still had 2+ weeks left It has sunk in now though and am very excited to be meeting him sooner and no doubt he will be a healthy size

Will let you all know how it goes and will post some pics when I get round to it. I went to post last month and then lost a massive big post and it was too late so didn't redo it and then forgot to come back!

Great to hear everyone's news and how all our lovely little bubbas are doing.

Congrats Laila, so exciting that Oliver is here - how are you finding juggling two?

Not much longer jaxs, looking forward to hearing about your baby's arrival too - you're having a boy aren't you?

I'm keen to stop at two kids as well, I used to think I wanted lots and lots but similar to you guys, I don't really enjoy pregnancy, no big problems or anything but I just prefer the baby on the outside than the inside :) I also agree on the manageability of two rather than anymore. It's all I really picture for our little family - though of course if a third happened sometime down the road I wouldn't be disappointed or anything, just not in the plan - DH is wanting to get fixed! I actually feel quite excited that we've almost completed our family - kinda like all the bits of the puzzle will be here and we know what we're working with

Ok, better post this before I lose it again.

Haha he's very cute.

I've been pondering the question latley of how exactly a woman decides to have her last child. I can't imagine (at this time) not wanting to have more. So I asked a friend at work who has 4 grown kids how she knew it was time to stop - she replied "When the hubby took himself to the vet" - hahaha! She said she'd still be going if he hadn't of put an end to it. SCARY! I'm starting to think maybe I'm going to have to re-think my fear of owning a minivan hehehe. Anyway - I know everyone's answers will be different (and possibly everychanging) but how many do you think you want to have?

It's cool tho because it's the sister of an old workmate who is doing the pics, so she's quite flexible, and reasonably priced.

We're managing to keep illness at bay here, Alex hasn't been too sick (just a cough that's ongoing) and hubby and I have been okay too - not as well as we have been previous years, but not as bad as I was expecting. G used to sit and watch TV happily while I got her tea ready, however lately she puts a DVD on (yes, she actually puts it in herself), and then throws a tanty! So I've given up on TV and she just 'helps' in the kitchen or gets all the tupperware out of the pantry. Trouble is, she's very demanding at mealtimes and wants her meals right there and right now!

Took her to Kelly Tarlton's last weekend. LOVED it. Wasn't sure about going in the car around the penguins, but she did pretty well because it would've been quite scary for an 18 month old!

    Author: JAFAjaffa
Subject: 25003
Posted: 06 June 2011 at 12:21pm

How is everyone's Queens birthday going? We've been enjoying the extra day - getting some things done around the house we never have time to do otherwise. DH is currently making a ridiculous amount of groany noises about putting the dryer up on the wall - but he has no choice, I want the extra space on the floor in the laundry!

Alex starts his new daycare tomorrow, and his visits last week went really well. I don't think he's really going to notice very much that he isn't at the old place! When we took him to see the new place he ran off and started playing with all the toys immediately - not shy that kid.

Alex is saying piles of words - no idea how many! He's now distinguishing between wheels, balls and circles, but every fruit that is round is an apple. He is very chatty, and tells us exactly what he wants! 'Outside' is a favourite word, as is 'milk', 'book', 'car' 'byebye' and 'bubba'.

We need to make sure we spend more time playing with him - in the late afternoons he seems to get naughtier and naughtier and it always seems to be when we're trying to get other things done! He knows he isn't allowed to tough the fire guard, so when he wants attention he goes and gives it a really good shake!

Our days aren't really very eventful either - up, daycare, work, daycare, home, feed, bed! Weekends is zoo, or park, or inside activity (painting or baking or reading or dancing to music) in between food and sleep. Every week goes so fast!

My mother is visiting next weekend, I'm looking forward to it. Alex hasn't seen her in person since Jan. He has seen her heaps on skype though! Skype is excellent!

That must of been real hard for you at that stage and even now.

Good idea about posting photos on our facebook page, will have to put up a pic of Ethan.

Ethan still hasn't cracked the 10 kilo mark but pretty close. Hes got 8 teeth, but still not enough to chew an apple properly and swallow it. But loves pears, so he has one of those a day.

Someone was asking about the dinner times with the little ones. Ethans tea time is at 5 as well, so way too early for us to have tea. So I just do up a big stew for him and freeze it so its ready to go. Theres always a chicken one or a beef one ready to go. And if theres leftovers from our dinners he gets that the next night.

I think Ethan can say about 10 words. And at the moment anything that is round is a ball. So anything that is in his books, like a lettuce or tomato or buttons are all balls, we try to correct him but we don't win!

Will try to post more on here, but my days are never that eventful!

Edited by Nay29

Have to look back on the threads to find out what was the result of Andriea's scan??? Is she expecting or not?

I honestly think that a lot of us don't pop in so much because it is so busy being a mum to a toddler! Remember those child-free days of being pregnant!!!? And I just don't feel like I have a lot to report or say.

Aside from that, it's hard for me to see so many of you pregnant and expecting very soon. Don't get me wrong - I am really happy for you. I guess because I have been separated from my DH for 9mths and not sure if I will ever have the chance to have another baby which I really long for and at 36yo you know, time is ticking. So it's quite hard.

But I do wish you all the best and remember how exciting it all was!

I am loving my little boy. He is so loving and gives kisses and cuddles and he's so special, I adore him. He says lots of words and is very bright and cheeky, busy and on the go. Loves to be outside, get messy, get into mischief! Makes me laugh every day - yesterday he hopped into the bath with his clothes on. Day before he threw his shirt into the toilet. He has fair hair with curls and beautiful big eyes and a beautiful smile and he's just the best. Blimmin hard work though and I am grateful that his dad is involved a lot and I have an Au Pair to help me (I recommend it! Free board/accommodation in exchange for her help!)

He's 11kg but very tall and at the moment eating for Africa.

Regarding a big bed - I was doing some research for another parent and apparently the longer you can wait, the better. Even 3yo or more. Nathan climbs over his cot rails but I put him in a sleep sack and that stops him. He would be a nightmare in a big bed at his age!

One move was enough for me. Think we will be here for quite a while now.

Georgia tends to throw herself on the ground when she gets angry or frustrated. Usually hitting her head on something or the ground on the way down which makes it worse.

She's becoming quite fussy with her dinner now. I usually do veggies for her and she eats around 5pm because she gets so hungry. If she hears me in the kitchen she comes in and tugs on me and cries, making it really hard to get her tea ready.
Hopefully once I'm at home I can make it a bit earlier and then just put it in the microwave. I would like us to eat all together because I think that would help with the fussiness, but we're not ready to eat so early and I only get home from work around 4pm.
What do you ladies do for dinners?

Her eye teeth have come through, so hopefully we get a longer break from teething this time.
Second night in her big bed went a lot better. He tries to headbutt us sometimes when he's mad and he'll do it to the wall. He also throws things at us when he's angry at us. I haven't looked into it - but I've just assumed its a normal stage. I ignore the head banging and then he stops.

T has been in a big bed for 6 months now. Slept better then ever, for the first 3-4 months at least. We've had a rough patch since I started working, so for the past 5 weeks he's been coming into our bed every single night. I've just switched his bed for a double (more comfortable bed) and he's slept through the last 2 nights. Long may it last.

FYI, I have de-activated my Facebook profile. I was a little over it - and some people in general. None of you lovely ladies of course!

I miss the days of chatting in here regularly.

Alex is a big boy. I don't think Isabella is very far behind him. I know what you mean about them being loud. Between Isabella and her brother i need ear plugs!

Wow LilyC not long to go now! How exciting. Glad to hear all is well.

Aww i can't believe some are going into big beds already. I won't be switching Isabella for a while. Her brother was 23 months.

It's hard to believe our babies are 18 months now or nearly. They're growing up so fast. Isabella is saying more and more words all the time. She copies new words from us pretty much daily. So cute. They're like little sponges.

She's had 16 teeth for months, wonder when she'll get the last ones. Even though she has that many teeth she still chokes on apple, so i chuck it in the microwave to soften it for her.

There's one weird thing that she does that i wonder if it's normal or not. When she gets angry she bites herself! Sometimes i think it's an attention thing, you know giving herself something to cry about so i'll pick her up or whatever. Even though she gets attention and cuddles all the time. Strange child. She bit her brother on the back the other day when he stole her seat. Stroppy little tart she is!

It was my birthday yesterday. Didn't do anything. Had a bit of crap day actually coz the kids played up a lot. But my mum and sister got me an awesome pair of Dr Martens like this. I love them! So that was a nice surprise and DP made me a yummy banana cake.

I think it's the name that goes best with our last name. Will decide when he's born anyway.

We've started Georgia in her big girl's bed for daytime sleeps. Will put her in there at night from this weekend, see how it goes. We have a bed rail, so it's really no different from her cot. Just a lot more room. My only concern is that she does move alot in her cot, gets in all different positions, so will be interesting in a big bed

She had an ear infection last week, so she's had antibiotics and is much better. We have her top eye teeth coming through which is probably what caused the ear infection. Poor thing, am really over this teething now! No doubt she will finish and #2 will start

Jafa, hope settling into the new DC goes well. It's a nice idea and everything, I just like having treats and things throughout the year, not just one day! Sunday is my day for sleeping in anyway, so I still had a nice start to the day.

We've got a month now til Alex starts at his new daycare. We're going to take him for visits in the week prior, but we are hoping it might be a bit easier on him this time around since he's already used to being in care.

We took A to Plunket on the weekend - he's now 84cm and 14.1kg. Chunky bubba! He was much more interested in playing with the toys there than being weighed and measured so he got a bit stroppy about it. Overall he's good though, no concerns. He's talking lots - the latest words are bubbles, monkey and mouse, and he's linking things together - 'no more bubbles' and small sentences like that. We're hoping that we might be able to explain 'inside voices' to him soon. Either that, or we find a mute button! He's super cute but sometimes exceptionally loud!

Snicket, let us know how you go with the transition to a big bed. I'm wondering about that too, and when to do it. Alex isn't climbing out of his cot (or even trying to) so we'll probably keep him there for a while yet.

I would be so frustrated. Fingers crossed they find a new location.

Yes we have had our check with plunket you need to ring to book this appointment as they don't call you for it. I had a note on my calendar as she had mentioned this at our last visit. It is pretty basic with weight and height etc.

I agree about this age just being magic. They are so cute in their wee worlds and they totally understand everything now which is a great help even if they can only say a few things. We just had a weeks holiday at Cooper's Beach with my husband's family and it was fantastic. I'm really really struggling to get into work now though.

I had my 13 wk scan yest and all looks good. I love that scan as you get to see all of them cruising about. It makes it all seem so real too. I'm feeling much better now too and feel like I'm getting back to my old self as well. I hope all the bumps are growing well.

Lily, how are you doing? Author: JAFAjaffa
Subject: 25003
Posted: 11 April 2011 at 8:10pm

So I was thinking that this age might be my favourite so far. Alex has learnt 'I don't know' and 'no more', complete with sad facial expression and perplexed shrug. We ask him, "Alex, where is your digger?" and he looks about with a big show and says, "I dunno". Then he finds it and says, "Mumma, THERE!". So cute.

Everything is going pretty well for us, aside from having to find a new daycare because the place he is in at the moment is being demolished so ANZ can have a bigger, fancier entrance to their building. Apparently someone there described the daycare as 'dead space'. So unimpressed. Anyway, we have til September to find somewhere for him, but I am really hoping they might find somewhere else and be able to move the centre to a new location. It's just so disappointing when he is all settled, and he loves the carers, knows the routine and they know him and what he likes!

Enough moaning! Has everyone had their 15 month checks from Plunket? I know all the babies are over 15 months, but we haven't heard from our Plunket nurses (despite me even being on the committee!) so I booked him in to another clinic that does appointments on Saturdays.

I hope everyone is going well, it's so quiet in here these days!

It was actually a friend's husband that told me he'd seen it, which was a little unexpected. I'd actually assumed his wife had guessed anyway, so didn't matter but just weird that people can secretly read what I write and know it's not me, but not mention it. I'd be no good at having a blog haha

Glad to hear you're ok Lily! That's really funny about the matching outfits, hehehe. I hadn't thought of that for boys, but now that you mention it I want matching outfits if we have two boys too!!

Sounds like a fab week away Jaffa, I had my first weekend away from Cooper (maybe I should go back to calling him DS haha)and I missed him heaps (and DH) but was also really nice to have some time to myself and catch up with friends. It also made me feel like we could take Cooper away, we haven't yet as been a bit scared, but think we could handle it now and it would be worth it.

It sucks when that happens sweets, Cooper does that sometimes with teeth coming in. He often still wakes around that time and I bring him into bed and usually he'll go back to sleep. 6-6.30am is pretty regular for us, but we've had a few more around 7ish lately which has been nice. Is he waking because he's really wet or cold? Those are two things I've heard can cause early waking. Not sure what to do about the wet nappy thing except change to a more absorbent nappy or a bigger size?

Good idea about the activities Jaxs, post any decent links you find. I hope Georgia settles down soon, so hard when you're not sure what's wrong. I always seem to assume teeth.

Edited by tiptoes

I don't know if it's still teething or what. This evening she screamed at dinnertime, so I put her in her cot for a while where she was quite happy. She was ok after a little rest and had some tea, but then halfway through her bath she just started screaming again. Then fell asleep drinking her bottle. I think it's just that she's not sleeping long enough during the day, but she just won't sleep any longer or have another nap later in the day. She's been going down between 6 and 6:30pm the last few weeks.
I'm not sure what I'll do when daylight savings finishes, her bedtime will be even earlier! I can't even see which teeth are coming through. She had the works - nappy rash, dribbling, sleepless nights, off food... everything. She's been better today, but it seems to have gone on for weeks this time round I'm procrastinating on the 15 month jabs because of it.

On a more positive note, we sold our house and bought another place in Hamilton. So we're on the move in 2 weeks. Hope G adapts to the new house ok. It's got a fire place which I'm really looking forward to, especially with a newborn. So exciting with another lot of pregnancies.

Oh that note I'm UTD too! Only 8 weeks but had a scan last week just to check and there was a heart beat so starting to get excited.

I had a question for you girls. What have people done to deal with nappy rash? S is quite red on her 'girly bits' on the front and it doesn't seem to be subsiding so I was wondering if anyone had some tips? We had time in the weekend with no nappy on (two lots of poos on the floor!) but it doesn't seem to have improved. I'm also trying the Bepanthen Ointment but this doesn't seem to have improved it either. We have just got a new tooth but haven't had this before so a little concerned and would love any ideas/thoughts?

Strange if they've started now - or has he not been before? I remember taking Cooper to the doc with spots when he was about 10 weeks old and it was just mozzie bites

So sad about what has happened in christchurch. I can't stop watching or reading about it. I was so shocked to hear how many people are still trapped in buildings too.

Yay about #3 next year Deb and only a few months till the middle of the year jafa!

Good idea about keeping daycare going when #2 arrives Jaxs, then you get a day just with the new baby.

So cute that your girls are starting to say more words. Cooper still only says a few things but heaps of sounds and today I started saying 'what? what?' to him as he sounded like he really was trying to say more stuff. Loving this age too, Cooper pulls such funny faces to make me laugh and he is so full of hugs.

It sounds cool the things they're making at daycare, Cooper did a painting at playcentre, but he's not that into it anymore. He just wants to race round in circles or play in the sandpit or playground. It's interesting to watch very distinctive interests evolve.

Overall sleep has settled down and has improved so much. We still get some crazy nights as he's got one molar fully in and two on the go but quite a few sleep throughs too - though later to bed and early to wake so probably still a similar number of hours in a row but more when I'm asleep which is what counts haha

Awesome about midwifery sweets, so exciting to find a new career that you're into.

Exciting about finding out the sex of your baby this week jax. One of my good friends was certain she was having another girl and just found out she's having a boy. I'm the same, I feel like it's most likely a boy. I've got my nuchal scan on Monday and hoping to get some 'nub' shots to see if I can guess boy or girl. So looking forward to seeing bubs again and being able to tell everyone. I'm 12 weeks tomorrow so telling a few friends I'm seeing in the morning.
